(Sorry for my poor English )

So I think my power steering column needs to be changed (car goes to the dealer probably next week to check the codes). I need the car and also my wife needs it. To prevent any accidents if the power steering decides to cut out while driving, I was thinking to take the fuse off. Can driving without the fuse cause some damage somewhere?

i want to do the same thing. ive been told on another forum that the cars are safe to drive without power steering & some people prefer to drive them that way apparently as you get more feedback through the wheel. after driving mine with no power steering for a few miles last week it felt perfectly safe & isnt as heavy on the steering as my old transit van. my car has an intermittent fault which only happens occasionally & is fixed by turning the ignition on & off again then its ok for days. went through the mot 2 weeks ago with steering fault no problem but im not going to pay £800 to a fiat dealer to fix the problem as i can get another car for that. if its just a case of removing a fuse that would be brilliant i hope someone on here knows.

Not sure what damage it will do but without the powered steering the steering is very heavy. The first time my power steering went I was in a car park and the car was very hard to park.

Yeah, it will be heavy. But it will be also safer that way. But main question is: Can it cause some damage somewhere? It could take up to 4 weeks before parts arrive and they can be installed to the car.

it wont cause any damage apart from maybe a hernia
these racks are set up to be used with power assist and so in my opinion are dangerous to use in the non assisted state
yes the handbook insists its safe to drive if power lost but in my opinion this is just a get out liability clause from the manufacturer

I drove without power steering for 3 months before I got round to fixing mine, just felt like driving my old corsa which didn't have PAS, took a week or so to get used to. Didn't even notice it after a while.
