Hi!

The front driver’s seat in my 2012 Punto mechanism has jammed and I can’t slide it forward or backwards. Nothing has jammed in the runners, so I tried to get to the bolts on the seat frame to release the seat but it has jammed over the front bolts and I can’t get to them at all.

Any tips on how to release the seat without taking an angle grinder to the frame?

Thanks!

Hello,

Is the lever that allows sliding working properly? Looking at the manual:

it should be attached to both sides of the seat base, perhaps it has detached itself and thus you can't move the seat.

Try pushing the seat a little bit to the back and to the front and operate the lever at the same time.

Compare with the other side, should be the same.

Hi. Thanks for the reply! The lever is still attached and the chair doesn’t move when pushing the seat. I’ve looked under the chair and when I operate the lever it seems like a piece of the mechanism (perhaps a spring under a pin?) is jammed in the runner on the right hand side. There is a metal arm that moves down to meet the pin when the lever is engaged. The left hand side engages fine.

I’ve tried using a screwdriver to release the piece stuck in the runner but it won’t budge.

Hope that makes sense - I’m not really 100% sure what I’m looking at.

Had a similar issue with a 2014 Panda. I unbolted the seat removed it and after a swift thump here and there it was free. Seats have two independent locking runners and a cross bar that unlocks them both at the same time. If this does not occur because the seat has twisted on its runners it can cause this. If one side unlocks and one does not it all goes wrong. A big pain to fix but not a big or difficult job. Disconnect the battery and leave a while before undoing any underseat wiring. My seat has never done this again by the way

Great, thanks! I’ll have a look and give this a try.
