Hi, guys!

Does anybody know where can I find digital dashboard with trip computer (instead of econometer)? I prefer used one rather than new one, just because it will be much cheaper ;)

I've got Tempra 1,8 SLX from 1994 with digital dashboard, but, just like in most of our Tempra's, there is an econometer on it. I think about changing this stuff for version with trip computer, so I have searched all over the internet, but as for now without any success :(

Maybe someone has seen that stuff live (used or new) and could help me? Maybe I should try to find it in Italy???

Best regards - Edgarian

I saw one on Ebay about 2 months ago, not much help I know but it might be a place to keep an eye on. Quite regularly there seem to be a number of old Tempra's that come up in Ebay for breaking up so they may sell the digital dash.
Ebay search "fiat tempra" and look at "breaking for spares"

Although on the digital dash Tempras we have the econo gauge is replaced with a turbo boost gauge (but they are both diesels), do they do one with a "trip" computer ?

On my Tempra user's manual (1992) there is written that it was an optional for the SLX 1.8ie version, which otherwise had the econometer gauge. The trip computer would be nice, it tells you about the average consumption during your trip and, according to this, your autonomy with the fuel you have, and more. Not so useful in my Tempra, though, since I use gas mostly and not petrol...

Once I got home I looked it up in the main dealer manual.

It will need the computer control box as well as the digital display and it also needs an outside temperature sensor (fitted into one of the door mirror housings) so it's not quite as easy as changing the dashboard. If the car has automatic air con the sensor will be already fitted. I have the circuit diagram if you do go ahead Edgarian.

Thanks, guys, for your help :worship: I have heard that trip computer was an optional for SLX 1,8ie version of Tempra, but now with informations from you I have certainty :) Just as I told you, I've got such Tempra from 1994 and that's why I'm looking for digital dashboard with trip computer...

Unfortunately I don't know anything about "computer control box", I don't even know where it should be fitted in my car and where should I look for it :( But my Tempra has Automatic Heating System instead of Automatic Climate System (in other words there isn't air-conditioning, just auto-heating) and both have similar steering panel with digital thermometer. My Tempra has outside temprature sensor fitted into left door mirror so I can find actual exterior temperature on the display. There is a special button on the panel named "EXT." :)

Something tells me that I could change the dashboard without any problems, if only my Tempra has somewhere that computer control box.
Ziomike would You be so helpful and send me your circuit diagram to my e-mail adress? ([email protected])

Thanks guys once again and, please, keep an eye on that thread :)
P.S. If anybody has some more information - please write (y)

I have added here two pictures of trip computer I'm looking for. First of it shows picture from Tempra manual - this is the way trip computer looks like ;)
Second photo shows English version of digital dashboard with, in my opinion, trip computer instead of economizer on the left side (above the "check panel"). Or maybe on this English dashboard there is "turbo boost indicator" for diesel engines - just like Ziomike said. Of course, I'm looking for European version, not English, and with trip computer, not with "turbo indicator" ;)
Maybe these pictures will be helpful for you, guys.

The trip computer display looks similar to that in my dealer manual. I'll dig out the circuit and get it into a form I can email to you, it may have to be a couple of jpgs. This will take a couple of days.

I think the info in my dealer manual is for left hand drive cars so it should be the "right" way round for you. The circuit definately shows the "trip computer" is a display only, the actual computer is in a seperate box, I believe under the dashboard, but I will check in the manual. I very much doubt that the computer has been fitted without the display !.

This is next news for me :) I always thought that "trip computer" display on digital dashboard was using the same computer as the engine and there were only different connectors or cables to connect that display to computer. Please, let me know if You find anything new about it.

Unfortunately nobody wants to help me in my country :( You are my last chance, guys!

Best regards, Edgarian.

I scanned the pages last night, it amounts to 18 pages of about 2-3Mb per page. I will load them up to my website and then post a url for downloading, that way it won't clog up your email system.

Thanks, Ziomike, for your help and documentation :) I'm on my holidays now and I'll be back home next week. Next Monday I'll take those pdf's from Your website and try to do something with my dashboard :) I'm going to write down my experiences with that stuff...

Thanks, once again, Ziomike, and of course don't forget to let me know if You find anything new about this dashboard or trip computer :)

Best regards - Edgarian

P.S. I've just looked on those pdf's - this documentations would be really helpful for me - thanks!! :) On the first look of an eye - the main unit of trip computer looks the same as main steering unit in my Tempra, maybe those main units ARE the same and the only difference is in individual displays and cables? I'll see at the end of September, I think :)

Ziomike was right - trip computer needs computer control box fitted under the steering wheel and in my Tempra there isn't such box there :(

But I have some news about trip computer - I've dug up an information, very improtant information - this stuff was made only to June 1991, so for a couple of months only. Unfortunately, there isn't any information about roots of that decision - maybe it was only a test of new device or that trip computer worked too badly to keep it in production. In my opinion such short time of production is really strange

So, it seems to be a rare stuff, but I'll keep my searching for it - maybe I'll be The Lucky Guy ;)
