Technical Differential noise

Have a noise in my diff. I was wondering if the condition on the diff can be examined by removing the bell housing instead of completely disassembly the complete transmission? I believe the transmission is 126 type in a 1971 Seat Abarth 1000 TC clone. The case is the type that the bearing assembly is fully in the case.
