Hi everyone, im a newby on here and was wondering if anyone can help. My 2008 x250 2.3 multi jet has a message comes up after its been started and runs for a short distance, when turn off/turn on a message saying excess fuild in radiator stop and turn off. Does anybody know what this means as I checked oil/water all is OK.

Yours is a 2008, so it probably is the 7 year's itch.
My 2007 Ducato is less eloquent, it just turns the orange engine light on to invite me to plug in the ODB reader. The device displays codes that sometimes are pure nonsense or not even listed, but the good thing is each code can be simply erased with the press of a button.

The radiator is always filled to the brim, so a warning about excess fluid belongs to the nonsense category.

Theres a level sensor as an option in the expansion tank might be going above Max mark when hot coolant expands or you have excess pressure in the tank. If it is a spurious error I'd have a look for evidence of water ingress or damage

Hi thanks for the info. I took the van for a 240 mile run, and never got a single dashboard message on it. Have now had the van standing for a couple days , turn the key this morning and more messages about services and oil change. Could this be the battery playing up ?

I guess you would not be able to start if the battery really nears end of life.

The ECU generates these messages sometimes because the (firmware) program is not properly initialised when you turn the key. Very annoying because each time you yourself have to decide if the message is genuine or just nonsense. I have learned to live with these quirks, a new ECU is an expensive part.
