Tuning custom exhaust- whats needed to get it to pop/bang

ive just been reminded how we used to get our cars to pop
we turned the ignition off
put pedal to the metal
turned ignition back on
only problem was we once blew a back box open like a sardine can when the fuel ignited

this wont work on a modern car though that has floor panels and such

You must have had the L. We had the GL, the ignition would go off automatically.

Wow , this thread escalated quickly . I suppose i will have to stick with the sound i have then . is it true that the sound of an exhaust gets louder, the older it gets ?

Yes and no

From new to mid age - its gets quieter as carbon builds up and helps to muffle noise and raspyness from fresh metal

As it gets old - holes form and sound deadening breaks up = sound passes out = More noisey

Unfortunately/fortunately if your custom one is stainless, and the folk who made it didn't use mild steel mig wire, it'll outlive the car by a long, long time.

So you'll probably never find out or experience any change..............

Just Rev it and turn the key on and off .
