Technical Croma 2006 Check engine, shuts off car

Its only been a few days that ive gotten my license and my brother has left me a 2006 croma. Ive taken it out maybe a dozen times, i had my first problem today. It had been maybe 30 minutes that i was driving in the city the most i did was 3rd gear and max 2000 rpms, i stopped for a bit as i had been in traffic and wanted to chill as its pretty hot here, got on the car drove for 10 minutes without any problem and as i was heading to a stoplight the car abruptly truned off and when i turned it back on the check came on.
I stayed in place for a while after that happened but the check still didnt go away, i hardly managed to get home as nearly at every stoplight it turned off immediately when stopped, what i could gather was that if i let the rpms get low the car would turn off so to avoid that i would keep the clutch a bit engaged when at stoplights so it wouldnt turn off again but as im still a bit new couldnt really manage to do that all the way so it turned off about 5 more times i would say.
From what i could tell the temperature seemed okay. Please any help would be great, thanks.

I had forgotten to post this thread so im adding an additional thing, i will attach a photo of something i found. The cables had been grinding on the belt, could that have anything to do with it?
