I'd never looked in the boot spare wheel well before, but I took a look today. And I don't have a spare wheel, or a jack. Instead I have a shaped plastic insert with an odd collection of items.

The contents are:

  • red triangle
  • towing eye
  • odd compressor, wrapped in cellophane
  • screwdriver
  • odd bit of plastic shaped like a golf tee
  • set of wheel nuts

Is this what I should have? If I get a puncture on a motorway I'll feel a bit useless with all this...

Go to a scrap yard and get one! All that is useless on a dark wet night in the middle of nowhere with no phone signal!

What on Earth? Sounds like you've got the MacGyver-standard repair kit! (y)

I find my boot well has:
  • Full-size Bridgestone spare tyre
  • Manual jack
  • Wheel locking nuts (in the glove box)
  • Tow attachment and cable
  • The windy thingy to get the bolts off
(not comprehensive, I'm at work remembering from when I had a puncture a couple of weeks ago).

If I was you I'd look into getting a spare, unless yours is different I find it can fit a full size spare and not one of those thin tyres or a PRK!

I recently assisted a woman whose Ford Fiesta had a flat tyre....went down to help her. Opened hatchback...no spare tyre.....mmm Ok...Then no jack. Weight and cost savings in a new car.

All that there was was a can of puncture sealant rubbish. Suspect you have the same set up which is as much use as a chocolate teapot. You will need a spare tyre, a jack, a wheel nut remover and put in a pair of gloves as well.

That's the standard. I have the same in my sporting with 17" wheels.

I don't understand those repair kits, is the tyre supposed to magically re-inflate itself without disturbing the repair? And you have to drive like a high Sunday driver to avoid re-puncturing them.

I still can't believe my luck that I jumped for a Punto and then realised it had a full sized spare.
