Hi all,

I broke down on Thursday where I had some problems with my clutch, my foot went flat to the floor and I felt something pop under my foot, I couldn't engage any gears and the pedal felt like there was no tension but it would return.

The AA man then said it was the slave cylinder, He showed me the part that was broken and said it needed replacing. This would explain the pooping feeling.

This morning I have replaced it and bled the slave cylinder but there is still no tension in the clutch and I cant select any gears. but it does return to its normal position.

Do you think this needs more bleeding or could it be another part that has broken? Are there any tricks to bleeding it as I have only been pressing the clutch pedal. Thanks for any advice in advance

I've just done this recently with a MK1 Punto. I didn't follow this but, it may help http://www.wikihow.com/Bleed-a-Slave-Cylinder

I'm use to bleeding brakes on bikes, same process! :)

Is it a new slave cylinder or secondhand? If secondhand, check around it to see if any fluid has escaped from where the piston would be.

It's a new slave cylinder, the last one was plastic and it snapped, this one is fully metal.

I have fixed this now, it just needed a lot of bleeding, my warning light is still on though, will it go off in time or does it need more bleeding??

Which warning light?
The handbrake light also shows if fluid level is low. Make sure when topping up that the fluid goes through the filter under the cap, if fitted. If the level drops too low you'll get air in the brakes, then more bleeding needed.
Any other warning light, tell us which one.

personally i would take filter out top up then replace filter but as bill says do this soonest or you will create more problems

You wouldn't be the first. Sometimes you will get questions about topping up the power steering fluid or can't find the fan belt. The odd time noisy tappets are heard as well:rolleyes: Old habits die hard.

Its the handbrake light, as you said I think it needs more bleeding and then topping up.

Hydraulic is lighter'
but id sooner have cable. :)

my last car was a Saab with a clutch cable, renowed for having the heaviest clutch ever made especially when old and worn, after that a punto clutch was a dream, like gently moving feathers with air movement from your foot.

i don't want a cable back ever after that i'm traumatised for life
