My daughter has a 2014 500l

Whilst sat in traffic she has had the clutch depressed and the car in neutral. When she has got ready to go and put in in gear to drive off it won’t go into gear.

My initial thought is the Master Cylinder losing pressure as is a bit damp (but not massively) when I look under the dash. Was just going to order a new one and replace but thought I’d ask advice first!

Alternatively could it just be the clutch on its way out!?

Oh and I know it’s bad practice to keep your foot on the couch pedal!

From what you have described I would agree clutch master cylinder most likely assuming no major loss of fluid or any strong burnt clutch smells.
Generally if it is that, then releasing the pedal and repressing it goes into gear if it is fluid leaking past the pressure seals in the master cylinder.
I am always telling my daughters not to hold the clutch down at junctions;)
 
Ask someone to push the pedal down while you look under the bonnet to see if the release arm / slave cylinder push rod move. If not its definitely the hydraulics. Clutch just failing seems less likely these days. First try bleeding the clutch hydraulics.
Generally I would agree , however if the pressure seal in the master cylinder is the problem there may not be any air in the system.
I mean the pressure seal on the piston in the cylinder and not the one nearest to the actuating rod from the pedal, although OP has mentioned it is a bit damp under the dash.:)

Yep understood. My Panda 100 became difficult to get in gears. Changing the fluid made a big difference. It should surely be a service item.. I must get all 3 cars done. My back has given out so I will have to shell out. 9
