Hi
Sure this has been done before but is it possible to fit an aftermarket inline petrol fuel. Pump for a carb 998 cc fire engine?
I have been given an engine that will go in my panda, low miles and very clean by a local garage but it has no mechanical fuel pump on cylinder head.
Just blanked off where pump should be.
I have don't this before with tractors and mowers etc, 12 volt feed and switch but is it feasible on a panda, mine has a plastic fuel tank and a feed and return line and one line to carb
Many thanks Glenn
Need to know before I get involved with the spi engine I have bought.

Ok
Yes
He is very helpful and knowledgeable
ive just had a lot of things break on me in the past

what engine is it again? the 899cc over head valve engine like what is used in the cinquecento? or is it a FIRE engine with a cam belt?
hmm whatever both will work with an in line fuel pump.
you only need a pump capable of delivering 0.8 bar of pressure for pretty much all SPI systems on fiats but theres no harm in getting a pump that goes higher as they all have automatic fuel pressure regulation built into the throttle body.
the only issue is getting a pump with a flow that is to high as it may not be able to return all that pressure back to the tank through the narrow fuel lines. you make have to try a few different fuel pumps. i was lazy and i made a thing called a swirl pot and used a low pressure lift pump to fill the swirl pot up and and a larger more powerful pump that pumped fuel from the swirl pot to the throttle body then back in the swirl pot again. i made a basic one out of some piping i found on an air conditioning system in a scrap yard. think i have a photo of it somewhere in detail...

on the "to high pressure fuel pump" at the bottom, add a metal can type in line filter too.

its still working great some 7 years on!

I think he wants to use his carb on replacement engine.

Engine cc of replacement engine not stated.

I would say he just needs a low pressure electric pump.

Cheers J

oh in that case, yeah if you want to replace your 999cc engine with say an 1108cc spi engine just swap the manifolds over, remove the coil pack bracket, replace it with your distributor and use any cheap low pressure fuel pump. them solenoid pumps are ok but carry a spare. i would use something like a motorcycle fuel pump.
to plumb in your fuel pump i recommend to first have a fuel filter then to have the pump then to have a T connector then to return back to the tank. the off shoot from the T connector is where your carb connects to.

Brilliant
I knew you would have the answer

It's a uno engine.
1108 I believe
As long as it gets me a mot I don't care what it is 😕👍
Been a long restoration

i ran a carb engine with an electric inline pump with out the T return line. it was ok but occasionally vapor locked and my car went on fire! i suspect this to have been caused by to high fuel presure, crappy fuel lines and bad conection/ sparky starter solenoid. i have a 4x4 head so i was able to remove the blanking plate and fit a normal mechanical pump. after repairing fire damage
