hi all, i have a 98 chinky sporting, and it is going off to a profesional metal fabricator to be converted into a pick up. i have a good idea of what im after but after a few hours trailing the net i cant find many pics of ones done so i can get a better idea. would be greatful if any of you could post some pics for me, thanks.

search forum for 'the flymo'

it is probably the most famous cinq pickup, bright orange and on ebay every other week

I found this in the gallery, hope the member doesnt mind :)

This would look awesome! (y)

It'd look better if it was longer, so 'in proportion' with other pickups, but it'd be way to much time, effort and expense.

There was another one started but not finished a while ago, that was going to have an MGF subframe and 1.8 K series in the back, and one on the bay that had the rear lights relocated into the bumper.

could cut the back off another cinq and have a 6 wheel pick up

I had thought of something like that a while back, turn the second rear half around and weld it together so the arches line up and you end up with a rear overhang. But from above it looks like the Cinq tapers in a little from the middle to the back, so you'd end up with a car that goes thin then fat again :D

it definatly getting done, leaving the lights and everything where they are and the boot lid is going to be the back of the cab, its going into the workshop in october so if people are interested, i'll try get some pics up as a project thread. cant wait to get everything sorted. got alot of things to think about before it goes off to be done.

yes keep us informed, it would be nice to have a cinq pickup that we can keep in touch with and refer to

like it was said before its alot of time and effort, luckily im not doing the work. i know an old chap who is a fantastic metal fabricator. and my biggest bonus is i used to be a real mini boffin so have a couple of mini shells that im swapping in exhange for him spending 2 weeks converting the fiat, so its not costing me a penny really. and it is a huge job, chassis has to be strenghtened, roll cage, the actual pick up bed, but i know he will do a great job and i will be calling in everyday to get pics,

good, news and bad. the build is stating next week now, cant wait. but no one will touch me on insurance with it being modified, arrrrgggggghhhhhh. im giving up with insurance and will sort it when the car is finished.

what you need to do is regester it with the dvla as a kit-car as you are keeping most of the original car but you are modifying enough (i think) to deem it as a kit-car, if you can do this you can then insure it as a kit-car and the insurance will be lower than a standard car anyway, or at least this is what i have been told cos i was thinking of going down the same route but instead i am going to do a one peace fibreglass front end with tubular frame like the original mini's and have been told that i might be able to get mine down as a kit-car then

i would look into it if i was you, dont take my word as gospel but i can actually see the logic behind it, i'd recomend you get down the local dvla office and have a chat

here is what i have pulled from the dvla website that i recon relates to what your doing

Kit Conversions

This is where a kit of new parts is added to an existing vehicle or old parts are added to a kit comprising a manufactured body, chassis or monocoque bodyshell. The general appearance of the vehicle will change and result in a revised description on the registration certificate.
A vehicle will retain its donor registration mark if either the original unmodified chassis or unaltered monocoque bodyshell and two other major components are used. If a new monocoque bodyshell or chassis from a specialist kit manufacturer is used (or an altered chassis or bodyshell from an existing vehicle) together with two major components from a donor vehicle, an age related mark will be assigned. The mark will be based on the age of the donor vehicle. An IVA, ESVA, SVA or MSVA test will be required to register the vehicle.
Where there are insufficient parts from a donor vehicle or in cases where the original registration mark is unknown, an IVA, ESVA, SVA or MSVA certificate will be required to register the vehicle and a 'Q' prefix registration number will be allocated.
