Hi y'all,

quick and straightforward: I have a 2011 Fiat Punto Evo Dynamic (1.2 69 PS). Today my dad came back from work (he's using my Fiat since his Audi has "some problems"), and got stranded in the middle of a intersection after the car turned off with Start Stop and refused to turn back on. Turning the key does absolutely nothing, fuel pump buzzes and when I turn to start, nothing happens other than a few relays clicking. Sometimes holding it on the start position just randomly starts it.

I've had this issue now this and the past winter, except this winter it got worse. Usually the car starts, no problems. Once the engine reached operating temperature, if I shut down the car, there's a small chance it just refuses to start, and this only happens in cold weather. Mostly after I let it cool down it starts again without any problems. Other times the low temperatures don't do anything to the car.

I first pointed to the battery since I had some cheap and old one from the previous owner, got it replaced & got a proper AGM battery. Worked fine for the beginning, thought issue was gone, nope, few days later same thing. Tried charging the battery to 14V, put it in, nothing. Jump started the car, nothing.

Asked my mechanic about it, he tightened the starter screw apparently and that worked. For a tiny bit at least. Went to another mechanic, he tested the battery again, good condition.

Before I invest more money into this, I need y'alls help to help me at least try some more basic/cheap stuff before spending even more on this. Pushing the car and dumping clutch in 1st works to start the engine.

My first thought was starter relay, checked, it clicks when the key turns, no problems there I hope. Starter should also be fine, looked pretty good when I went under the car.

I hope someone has more of a clue than me on what this could be, I don't wanna waste more money on things that are not even broken. I did not find anything that helped me with this on the internet really.

Thanks to everybody!

Alright, after some time I am back, and happy to say the issue has been resolved.

I cleaned my ground cable and connection points, which did not work sadly.

Dropped the car at my mechanic, he told me the old starter was wired the opposite way around & was the wrong one. I bought a proper 1,1 kW one and got it installed, car starts perfectly.
