I was looking in the frunk and thought that the spare wheel and jack must weigh quite a few kg and removing them would save that weight and free up some boot space.

I wouldn't like to be totally without backup in case of a puncture so I did a search on this forum and I found a couple of references to Tyreweld which assert that you can't but there seems to be no definitive answer. I've done a general Google search and the only things relating to Tyreweld and inner tubes seems to be for bicycles where the general opinion is that you can use it.

I've also got a couple of cans of the stuff from previous cars and there is nothing on the can that says that you can't use it with inner tubes... I've emailed the company to ask them; will post the answer on here but in the mean time, if anyone has any backed-up evidence and/or has actually used it with inner tubes, I would be interested to hear :)

Tyre weld, or similar products have been used for bicycles with inner tubes for years, and I have used it for that application. It does have its limitations and tyre fitters hate it (the mess it makes). I'm not sure whether that would be advisable for tubes with a higher speed rating. Maybe worth an email to the manufacturer?

As I posted originally, I have emailed them, but I thought I would ask on here while waiting for a reply since it's bank holiday weekend... I'll post their reply if/when I get one

Sorry, I somehow missed that you'd emailed them!

OK, I've just had an answer from Holts, the manufacturer:

"Thanks for your email. I'm afraid we do not advise the use of Tyreweld with tubed tyres as it only has a 50% success rate.".

So, it seems that it shouldn't be used; not for any safety reasons but because it doesn't work well... fair enough!

50% chance isnt too bad, its a 50% improved chance you can get the car to the shop to get a replacement tube put in, vs a 100% chance of getting stranded at the side of the road and needing a tow.

One thing you could do, i dont know if you visit the local auto wrecker in your neck of the woods. Search out some of the higher end cars for their air pump/tire slime kit. Some of the sporty model Mercedes made in the past 20 years have this kit in the trunk, wouldnt hurt to grab a few and keep one in the fiat. You never can be without a air pump on a classic car lol. Im definitely going to keep on in the car, even though i plan to keep the spare in.
