CAMS?

Re: Cams

Hey syed

I thought u were from UK...but try contacting C&B send them an email and ask who is the distributor closest to you... Their web address is http://www.colombo-bariani.com/ Hope you can find something close to you ;)

Re: Re: Cams

Step 1 is finished!! The cams are fitted, along with new cambelt and the car i sup to 132 HP from 113 yesterday...and no piggyback yet! Great!!! :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Cams

No idea..hopefully the piggyback can optimize the manifold, kn, cams, etc...so usually he says 15% HP and 20% torque but is different from each motor so lets see!! Anyways 132 with only cams and new cambelt is sweet! He also told me he had answered a mail he received from someone here with prices and info on the cams...Dunno who he was but maybe he can post the info if someone is interested in it? Im at least please so far with my C&B cams :)

CAMS

YoGIS,

What is the part no. for the CB Cams that you installed. Mine car is Brava 1.8ELX similar to your Marea.

Thanks,
Syed.

Re: CAMS

hey syed

Ill try to find u the exact number later on...
Just remember that I chose the cam with the least degrees from the 2 available for my motor, because the other one gives more HP but the power doesnt come until after around 4000 RPM, else the car is even worse than standard...Also if your model is from 99 or later is a different cam than mine because of the motor has been modified...think it has variable intake timing or something...not sure but not same as mine

Re: Re: CAMS

yogis, i am fully interested in the installation as. me too looking for a set of cams without having to touch the other internals, you know what i mean. that's a pretty good gain you have there. and may i ask, how much did you get the bariani cams for? and i am from malaysia too. pretty hard to get performance parts here in malaysia.

syed, how are you? long time no hear at the forum mate?

Re: Re: Re: CAMS

The cams were pretty expensive, but so is everything here in Danmark...EVERYTHING!!! But they are very good cams and no regrinds and will not go very uneven in low rpms like when putting kent etc... Was amazed of getting 19 HP alone with cams and cambelt with the new correct timing...Try contact them at C&B if they have distributors close to you...and if you ever put the cams, then put a piggyback also so you can get the full potential of all ;)

Re: Re: Re: Re: CAMS

yup, they are pretty good cams i reckon, there was once i knew of a person who slammed in bariani cams in his romeo 155, and it was thundering. forgot to ask where he got it from. i guess, it does not give out some erratic idling huh, unlike the kent. well, the things here in malaysia too are very expensive, but some are so so unavailable that we italian enthusiasts will just have to order overseas and wait for the merchandize. but this is what i'd do, i'll email em and ask em about it. thanks again yogis.

Re: Re: Re: Re: CAMS

What are the cams side effects that are felt during during?

I heards that:
You have to rev engine more before you'll be able to release the clutch (for e.g. from 1st gear); This makes it a bitch to drive in traffic...even worse in walking speed traffic...arrrgggghhhhhhh there is lots of it here in Malta.

When braking, you have to heal and toe so that you can get some good brakes. Reason being that the hydraulic pump will not work properly therefore you have to rev the engine when braking, or else downsift to keep engine singing.

Erratic idling

Yogis, which of the above have you noticed correct?

Cheers mate

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CAMS

Thats only if you put a REALLY wild cam in. He has only put a 260 which is a fast road.

You should not notice and difference at low revs, maybe a little loss of power.

If you fitted a 290 you'd get a noticable loss of low end power and probably a rougher idle.

Really you only have to worry about your first point if you fit a silly clutch as well. If you fit a very strong spring or a sintered clutch plate then they bite really badly and you have to give it some stick.

Your second point you've actually got slightly the wrong idea. The brake servo is operated by manifold vacum so if you heel and toe and keep on the throttle then you will loose slightly braking. Even with a wild cam it won't be affected.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CAMS

Hey

These were my concerns before doing this...
I havent gotten my car yet, since 1 day passed before they got the cambelt delivered, so I will get it tomorrow or tuesday all depending when the engine management unit can be fitted and programmed...Usually all those problems (I was told) come because of the bad quality of the cams, since most are regrinds, but the C&B are all steel construction and will never cause those problems and will last basically forever ( many many hundred thousand kms)...So I tell you waht I was told...and since one of my firends decided to fit a Kent in his pug 106 and got all this problems, I thought I would pay a bit more and get quality...and 19 HP with only cams and cambelt is very good ;) and now engine management...even more :) Bye Bye HGTs heheh ;)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CAMS

Sorry, its got nothing to do with the quality of the Cams, its how they are fitted and how wild they are.

C&B cams ARE regrinds, they are just ground from virgin Fiat stock, not from your old ones. Also ALL cams are steel, they don't work otherwise. :)

The only thing special about C&B cams is they have taken the time to test them and develop them for the engines. Kent and Piper make so many they don't test all of the profiles, they just hope they work.

A cam from a steel billet would cost you many times the price C&B charge. Well over 1000eur for the pair.

If you put a 290 C&B cam in your car you would get idling probs, and low rev power loss. Doesn't matter if its a C&B, Kent, Piper, Crane etc.. if you put a really lumpy cam in your engine you get these probs.
