ohjust looked it up "twinport" is inlet manifold flaps...basically you put your foot down and you get the flaps open more air goes in...flaps close at slow revs for ecomony...around 2-3k revs i noticed a nice instant pull or when overtaking im guessing this is the flaps opening lol

theres a few common problems you need to look out for i only find out after i bought mine lmao...if you serious about buying one let me know il tell you what to look out for buddy

considering taking my head off atm and port polishing it raising compression ratio get a bit more power out of it :)

EDIT: no mine does not have trip computer buddy need larger screen for that as far as im aware mate

Big problems?

Hmm, even my Punto has a trip computer, you think Vauxhall forgot? Lol. Not having one isn't the end of the world. If your fuel gets low, fill up. MPG doesn't bother me as i don't do many long journeys anyway.

Looks even better clean (y)

What are these common faults then Brin?

Anything serious?

Well this is what i have found so far...

*Wing mirrors glass if we have a decent summer and they are original mirrors then the glue on the glass melts and mirror glass falls off lol (heard of few vauxhall doing this) if you buy a model with heated glass mirrors is expensive (might not happen to you though 50/50 chance)

*CIM moduals go, put the sidelights on and press the horn, if the horn sounds then its fine if it doesnt call your local dealership give them the car reg and ask if its already had the recall work done, if it has they will NOT fix it for free, if it hasnt had recall done then they fix it for free

*The shocker top nuts seized, you probably wont find a model that isnt seized lmao just a bad design imo, just something you have to deal with if ever need to change springs, some come free some dont however

*Boot light not working, switch is inside the latch, not too hard to fix not too expensive, just replace the latch mate

Thats the only things i have found so far :)

Loop If youve got £4-5K to spend.. come to bourne and take the Grande 1.9M-Jet Sporting for a spin £4999 - however much you would get for your car.. IIRC, they are a similar insurance group to the 1.6 Astras and almost twice as much torque ;)

Cheers Brin, nothing too bad then.

And Tom, looking for something i don't need to modify and personally i prefer the look of the Astra's rather than a Grande Punto. Plus an Astra would be more economical than a 1.9 M-Jet (y)

In all honesty, i'm not over the moon on the look of Grande Punto's

What's year and mileage on the M-Jet?

I doubt the Astra would be more economical that a 1.9 M-Jet? £130ish tax, insurance group 5, 130bhp 210lbs/ft torque and best of all 45mpg+ when pushed!

I wanna say its either 57 or 08 and about 50k miles, When I went to look at it I forgot to check the milage, but 50k is low for a Diesel.
And you wouldnt need to modify it, well... maybe a 180bhp+ remap and leave it at that ;)

hes right the diesel is more economical tbh in the astra im averaging around 22-30MPG driving steady (i have the odd moment when my foot becomes a ton heavier ;) ) but thats town driving, motorway give you a hell of a lot more!

however no offense...diesel is SH*T looking at a life of paying to fix failing parts and cleaning soot and oil out of everything, dont remap it either you will just block your exhaust/DPF and backbox, block the EGR and inlet manifold, eventually clutch will die and dual mass flywheel, and turbo seals will blow lol not worth getting a diesel tbh imo but everyone has there own view remember i work in garages i fixed them daily

Finally decided to investigate the boot light not working, took latch off and 3rd pin was corroded away no pin left at all lol, got a new latch plugged it in and working fine :D

I don't do any miles that require a diesel anyway. Work is not even half a mile from where i live and when i do travel to my parents it's all motorway so doesn't make much difference to me anyway (y)

Another point ... I really don't see the point remapping an engine that isn't designed specifically for that. If you want a faster motor, buy a faster one :), means you don't have to deal with repairs when the car does decide to fall apart. If i wanted power i'd buy something that already has it; but point being, i don't need a 180bhp remapped car which will boost my insurance for no specific gain unless i want to do track days or show off to kids in corsa's

Personally i think Astra's look nicer than GP's anyway ;)

Plus, i can get an Astra cheaper, less mileage and better condition for my money :D

Decided to port polish the astra throttle as i was taking it off to clean it and the breather anyways

Both sides are mirror finished and smooth...was not sure if it was possible to completely sand out the V casting shape near butterfly as was not sure if it was hollow or solid alluminium if any body knows i will take it all and completely remove that bit

Looks pretty shiney!

Ive always wondered what sort of a difference polishing a TB makes?
Guessing you use Wet/Dry, a dremmel, polishing wheel and autosol?

Tom

done by hand mate...just used a drill with buffer attachment to buff the metal to shine

apparently smoother air flow into the inlet lol i only took it off due to idle problems which is not sort :D also its said that you can get up to 4BHP ;) lol dunno wether to believe that i just thought id do it as its out lol

has made it run a alot smoother i have to say...but then again was some oil on the throttle so cleaned that off aswel maybe a combination of both lol
