if your getting that mpg at best then Stop booting it everywhere lol!!
what speed are you generally driving at?? if its 75+ (on your private test track of course) thenits going to hit the mpg a lot, the faster you go the worse etc. (am sure you know this anyways with a turbo lump in the garage!) most mpg figures are worked out at 56mph,

my old Citroen bx 16v(mi16 engine) when pushed hard (most the time) would give 18-20mpg, but on a run sat at a steady indicated 80mph(actual 74mph) would return 33-35mpg (on my private roads!)

if you are doing a steady 70 and getting 20mpg then somethings really a miss!

hello chap im using it just to go to work at the min im doing 60 90%of the time for about 20 miles but i seems to make no odds driving it slow it still has a drink problem ive work in the motor trade for abot 20 years and have never been beat yet but i have no idea whats wrong with it really am stuck:bang:

inwhich case, your guess is as good as mine then lol!
it all suggests that its running very rich but as you said, the plugs are good! i suppose the only thing to check would be the fuel lines! maybe there's a pressure related leak! something hyou wouldnt neccesarily look for??

either that or just drive it like you stole it all the time then! especialy if you get the same consumption when elephant footed to cruising!! 'Honest guv, i get better fuel economy if i drive faster'! ;-)

youre prob right if i drive it like i stole it the mpg only goes down by about 2 mpg so if i sole the arse off it everywhere at least when it goes bang i will have a really good excuse to put my 2.2 turbo lump in it just have to finish putting it back together before it goes bang though lol:devil:

MAF or Lambda, get a reader on it. MAF is most common. Also check for air leaks after the MAF, splits in the pipework etc.

cheers nedge2k can you tell me where the maf is on this thing hoping that will be the prob would hate to have to get rid cheers

Follow the pipe from the airbox to the engine. In the middle there'll be what looks like a plastic hose connector with wires coming out of it - that's your MAF.

Mine does around 24mpg round town (about 90 miles to 17 litres of Tesco 99).

Goes up considerably on the motorway, even with foot down it ain't too bad.

I had maf checked today ends up its fine so god knows im just going to have to put petrol in it when the other half isnt about so she thinks its doing more to the gallon i have had 30 to the gallon from it and it when down to around 25 mpg around town but the big pipe on the air box split and it would only do about 12 mpg i took it to a track day at brands hatch and it only did mpg which was nice but worth evey penny but im going to enjoy it while it lasts because ive had to put it up for sale on here as i need a diesel and for work as ive got to do over 1500 miles a week gutted but i will carry on building my engine and will find another 1 in a few months and fit engine in that will miss it as its prob the best and most rare car ive had good thing is the other half cant make me get rid of my 131 sport or my uno turbo so still have some fun cheers everyone for your help booking it in to get it fixed so new owner can enjoy it as much as me
