While thinking about swapping the engine for somethign bigger, I also need to consider the brakes. I had an idea on this, but I don't know if it would work, maybe someone here has some answers for me :)

I was thinking along the lines of replacing the entire brake system (at least in the front) with the brakes out of an Alfa Romeo 33. The Alfa not only has nice big brakes, but also has the exact same bolt circle size as the Panda. (4x98)

Maybe there's a flaw in my logic, but doesn't that mean that, at least in theory, the whole front brake system could be replaced?

As for the rear, I will have to look into the size of the 33's brakes, it also uses drum brakes, but they are larger. Perhaps they could be swapped as well?

With brakes like that you're likely to lock up every time you touch the brake pedal!
What model have you got at the moment?
Does it have a servo?
What are you planning to do in the engine dept?
With the Panda being so light it doesn't take much to stop it.
Mine has tarrox drilled and grooved discs, and a servo, much easier than changing the entire system, along with 175X60X13 tyres it stops very well.
Happy Pandering.

I now have a '92 CL ie, no servo brakes.
As for the engine department, see here:

I'm hoping to get all the technicalities out of the way, and eventually end up with a 80+ Hp Panda. It needs some pretty serious brakes, for safety.

Personally, I don't like servo brakes, for the same reason I don't like power-steering. I don't want to lose the feeling of the car, if that makes any sense. I like it when things are direct and uncomplicated.

I'd like to have the Alfa's front discs and calipers on, but I wouldn't use a servo for extra power assistance. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't need it! :D
