The switch on the tailgate seems to be missing something as when i press it in it goes into the silver handle ,is there a fixing or something missing ,im new to this car so dont know .

I'm not an expert on this but many have had their boot release switch assemblies fail. You need to search this 500X for move for more details.

I think the problem is due to bad design and user operation understanding.

The switch assembly does not detect finger presence to releases the boot catch. Instead it waits for positive finger/hand pressure to trigger the internal switch to release the catch taking some 0.5 to 1 second time. Once released the boot lid/hatch can be raised.

In practice people just press and lift / lift and press all in one go. This exerts excessive pressure one the switch/lift plate and eventually it will fail. This becomes worse when the tail gate/hatch rubber sticks.

I now always try to gently press the switch plate, wait for the lock release and then gently lift. If nothing happens I move my hand to the left or right of the switch plate and lift from there where there is no switch plate and plenty of sturdy plastic to allow/support a more forceful lift.

I'm used to this process but the wife not so as she mainly drives her Barchetta and Strada. At some point I expect my boot/hatch release switch panel to fail, in which case I'll blame the boss :)

Thanks for reply, but its just the switch/button itself that is loose i think there should be something to keep it in place for when you prsee it .

I believe, from posts, that it is the whole assembly that fails, as beomes loose. The switch contacts may still work but the whole assembly breaks loose.
