Yes, but I would take some rubbish bags with you to use to make sure that things don't get dirty and scuffed :) I'd also take some towels or at least something soft to make sure you don't scratch the wheels either. I've had a set of wheels in the back of the car before. Doesn't matter whether they're 14" or 15" or whatever, it's the outside diameter (ie the size of the tyre) which makes a difference.

Thanks - I picked up some ubiquitous multispokes on eBay to replace my steelies. Had a thought that I'd end up with one in the passenger seat or balanced on my head or something.

It takes a little bit of fiddling tbh and like I said you'll want rubbish bags and posibly some towels to stop the wheels damaging each other and the interior of the car :)

Surely he'll want quite good bags, not rubbish ones?

Sorry.

Incidentally - this is my 1,000th post. Yey!

I usually go to a tyre place myself, lol.

Jeez you really pulled out all the stops on that one! :p

Maxi, I've quoted you already to save you the trouble. :p

Glad I could provide unwitting comedy...

On a vaguely related note, the wheels I've bought are apparently new and with Goodyear tyres. My steelies came with Bridgestones so does anyone know if Fiat ever supplied Goodyears as standard?

Thanks

Thanks for the quick replies.

Now I just need to decide what to do with the steelies - winter tyres maybe (light touch paper and stand well back). Or I might use one as a spare - might be more useful than the spacesaver.

That's a sensible idea. I think there's probably at least one other chap on this forum who might agree with me;)

Even if you don't put winter tyres on (only reason I can think of is if the ecoPerson in you doesn't want to chuck away good rubber) then I'd still put them back on for the worst of the winter to save your nice shiny new wheels from the salt & corrosion. And the narrower tyres will be (slightly) better on snow.

Or I might use one as a spare - might be more useful than the spacesaver.

That one I don't get. The spacesaver is cunningly designed to be just the right size to fit in the space allocated for it in the boot. You wouldn't want to be driving fast or for a long time on unmatched tyres, so what's the point?

Another good reason for having a spare set of wheels is that you can remove them & drop them off at the tyre depot separately when the time comes for changing the rubber, which will obviate the need for you to post in the "hamfisted tyre fitter has just bent my sills with a trolley jack" thread.

I would agree with JRs inputs.
Despite being a fan of 16 inch alloys on a 1.4 (currently have the multis) at some stage they will need to be re-furbished. I'd love to have a set of steelies that I could pop on - I can get a much better price if there are done all in one go - 4 for the price of 3.
For the OP - are you based anywhere in the UK where you benefit from the dare I say it winter tyres.

Andy, if it were me I'd sell the steelies on ebay and see if you can't buy yourself some really cheap steelies (punto ones will fit but Grande Punto ones won't) and have winter tyres fitted to those OR just get the tyres taken off the wheels but tbh tyres on their own never sell well. I know it's summer and everything, but I really do feel that winter tyres are a good bet and give much better braking and traction as well as more surefooted handling.

I'm well famed for my pro-winter tyre speaches so don't want to turn this into another winter tyre thread ;) Feel free to PM me for advice if you want to though :)

I've noticed that in the handbook it says to change the bolts and spacesaver if you change from steel to alloys or vice versa.

Searching through the forum it seems like the bolts are the same and I'm guessing the spare should be fine as the circumference of the 2 wheels is very similar.

Is that right?

Correct. The manual is talking BS.
