It may sound silly but do you have a good constant fuel supply at pressure, not a dodgy relay or fuel pump?
I know yours is petrol , but some years ago I bought a Grande Punto 1.3MJ non runner, long story short but the previous owners garage had caused extra damage by trying to tow start causing timing chain to slip on free wheeling crank pulley.
However I located the original reason why it wouldn't start was the signal wire from the ECU to the fuel pump relay had corroded through inside it's plastic coat roughly 10mm from the ECU connector plug.
Another one, is it actually petrol in the line, did you have to top up on journey home?
I ran really economically actually. I tested the fuel pump last week. There is pressure. I disconnected the tube before and after the fuel filter and fuel was coming out.

So if you are happy there is fuel, sometimes on MPI injection when cranking you may visible see the fuel spraying in.
If there is fuel and a spark and compression all checked then something should be happening even if not running properly.
I can't remember, did you try with "easy start" spray, did it run as long as you kept spraying?
If so then it narrows things down a bit to the injection side.
If you crank the engine then pull the fuel pipe off the MPI unit when ignition switched off is there pressure there, usually around 30-45 psi (2 Bar. ish?)

I have tried with easy start. It than sort of started but when I pressed the gas paddle the engine stopped.
So if you had continued spraying it would have carried on running with just the "Easy start" unless you revved the engine.
If that is the case and engine sounded semi normal then it sounds to be the MPI unit or the electrics that control it?
Is yours a Mono Jetronic A2.2 as it looks like that is the earliest on a Panda 4x4 I can find , it is Engine Code 156 A2.246, if so I have some ECU pin out details for you to check.
Though it is dated 1992-96

The engine did not sound normal, it was trying really hard but couldn't get to run normally. My engine code is 156A2.246.
That's good, see if you can test the wiring from ECU to injection. As you can see on last photo it gives your engine series.:)

I'm such a beginner. I have no idea how to test the wiring. 😅
What I would do is identify the wires at the injection unit and then with the use of the details I gave you see if the voltages compare using a simple multimeter.
If you feel unsure then maybe give those details to an auto electrician to see if they match.
I appreciate if it is something you have never done it can feel daunting, most of the details you will not need but if you see what wires feed that injection unit and nothing else then it may start to be clearer.
No consolation but where that ECU has about 25 wires/terminals a modern car one has around 1000 and often more than one ECU/BCM etc. plus another for the ABS braking, so this is a fairly basic system although it may not seem to be,sorry:)

I'm going to send you my extra "carburettor" on monday so you can try changing the whole thing because I feel bad (being the previous owner).
