I decided to sell my bravo but before selling it I had to have my driveshaft and cv joints done along with the repairing of the terrible gearbox £600 later I've decided to keep it, now wanting a bigger non-bolt on turbo, thinking along the lines of a garrett with an external wastegate, just wanting to know your views or suggestions

There are many other things to consider, like of course your exhaust downpipe, oil feed and return pipes.

Not to mention that the injectors run out of puff at 190 ish bhp.

The "esseesse" abarth's run higher flow injectors and rails. You will need to get hold of some of these to run the larger turbo :)

If all else goes well, enjoy 200+ bhp (y)

I suggest you maybe get the Garrett GT1446 that sits in all the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari. I'm assuming you have a 1.4 Tjet? Cause if not then I'm giving you the wrong information :D the GT1446 will fit on the 1.4 Tjet with a few modifications. You could go for bigger turbos from Garrett but as I assume they'll work better on bigger engine capacities, such as 1.6s and 1.8s and might create a bit of turbo lag on the little 1.4 tjet engine :(

The garrett is nothing like the IHI it would replace..

List of parts you would need;

Custom downpipe
Custom manifold
Bigger injectors
Custom oil feed and return.

And of course, someone with the knowledge of mapping a totally different turbo in.

Honestly... it would be easier and possibly cheaper to send away your IHI VL38 and make it a hybrid (y)

Hope this helps :)

Tbf, I'm struggling to get power down with 169 bhp... I don't really feel like this car could handle much more.

I would look into something else, ultra light wheels would help with 0-60 times and cornering, and a Quaife LSD could completely change the characteristics of the car. Sometimes power is useless if you can't use it!

Look into other things, if you want more power, get the Alfa Romeo Guilietta 1.4 T-Jet 170... that has the Garrett set-up as standard and will map over 200 bhp. Then of course the Alfa is better set up and will handle the power better :)

Of course, this would be a LOT more money but then it would give you a solid set-up with a better chassis and suspension set-up (y)
