We were just stating that there are some similarities in the above mentioned models. I know that they do not share the same platform, but that doesn't mean just because two cars don't look the same, they don't share the same platform: just look at the Coupe which was based on the Tipo platform.

Unfortunatly, Fiat Portugal and the portuguese authorities are giving me a hard time [!] It seems the @ssholes won't allow me to use larger tires, let alone change the engine. When I ask them why I can't have larger tires on my car or change the engine, their answer is a plain and simple "Because..." [}][}][}]

It has been done before, but it seems you have to convince Fiat Italy to allow the changes to your car (at least here in Portugal).

And to make things even better, the b@st@rds at the MOT centre are saying that maybe the exhaust and rear wing have to go next year [}]. I need some sort of authorization to apply changes to MY car. Next thing, you'll probably need authorization to even put gas in your car... Of course, every time you ask the authorities for authorization you have to pay about 25 to 30 €, so they have every interest in tightening the rules for tuners and modders here in Portugal [V][V]

I already have to change the tires every year, so that the car can pass, just because it doesn't appear in the car's booklet.One of the hipocrits that work at the MOT centre has a Punto TD70 with 195/50 15" wheels. If I can't have larger tires on my car, why can he [?]

Do you know, I've even considered in registering the car in Spain, and then have it registered back in Portugal, because then they can't say it's illegal to have this or that on the car because it will automatically become LEGAL!!! [:0]

You guys can't imagine the amount of legal loopholes you have in Portugal! This is a true story:

A guy wanted to make a new window in his house, but for that he needed special authorization from city hall. Naturally they wouldn't give him the permit, so he went to see his friend, an arquitect, who said that he would take care of things.

The next week, some construction workers came over and built him a new window. Afterwards his friend took some pictures of the new window and went to city hall to ask permission to remove the window.

City hall said that in no way, you should remove the window, and even passed a oficial letter that the window under no circumstances can be removed.

So now the guy has an official paper from city hall saying that, that window can NEVER EVER be removed, making an illegal window totally legal

what a strange country you live in[!]

in holland you can replace you're engine by an other aslong as the pistons still the same, so a 1000cc 4cil, can become a 2000cc 4cil, but never a 6cil or more without extreem though test bij de "RDW" thats the station how provide you're cars registration and papers

This may come as a shock to you, but do you know that I'm actually DUTCH [:0][:0]

I'm writing in english, so that everyone can read my replies, but moving to Portugal was in many ways a downgrade (this being one of them). I left in 1987, so I'm not in touch with certain aspects of dutch legislation. Tell me, do you think that if I went to Holland with a 2 liter engine in my trunk, that I would get it legalized in Holland (even if that means changing to dutch plates?)

Because if I get dutch papers for the car, afterwards when I return to Portugal they have to accept what's on the dutch papers (including engine, tyres, etc) [}]

but a question.
in holland is my car on registration a 1.6MPI type II, if I put a 2.0 in it, I should let the goverment or some sort of thing now that i've change my engine to a bigger one if theire is more than 30% extra power.
no one does this and why should they. a 2.0 and 1.6 in type II version looks the same soo they don't see the differance.

I think if you come 2 here its cost you really money, because you're car must become a dutch car with the cost for it, than it must be checked en that "garage" how does this find always some witch you have to replace so it really dont come sheap.

and why are youre tyres not legal??

Well unfortunatly, they do look at the engine, so only if you're legal will you pass the "inspecção" as we call it here.

As for tires, they're not legal because in my car's registration booklet, it says that the current size is 185/60 14" and to change to another size, you have to have permission from the car maker. For the rest, it's legal because as long as the tires don't "stick" out of the cars bodywork, it's OK. So as you can see, my only problem is Fiat Portugal [}][}][}]

As for costs, in Portugal, just to change your plates from any EU country to portuguese plates you have to pay 2500 Euros [:0][:0][:0],let alone other expenses [V]
