There is some truth is what you say...

I think its to show that Fiat is a diverse brand...

Plus Fiat is well regarded as the king of Small /City Cars...

Fiat are bringing out the New Croma out next year...

I'm quite excited to see what it looks like... From the pictures from Autoexpress it looks fantastic...

The general trend of this period is to prefer taller cars instead of the usual city-cars...Idea-Punto in our case;)!But I agree with who noticed it hasn't more usable space except for the vertical dimension[:0]...a brand which adopted a correct approach to the "problem" is the Ford:they produce the Fiesta 3d and 5d and then the Fusion (which I have) that's taller and longer...really more space for persons and luggage!

Yes I like the fusion - the point is it has a different selling point to the standard car. That's what the Idea doesn't seem to have, it might be a good car but I just think the only people who'll buy it would have bought a fiat anyway.

Croma is the Mondeo class car right? I hope fiat do get their act together with this one because they didn't have much sucess with the Tempra or Marea. I reckon if they can produce a class-leader or even a best-value car in the estate class they will be back on track, after all to compete with the big names Ford, Renault etc you have to have a car in each segment otherwise you're just giving them the trade!

Even if I've that "little" Ford I must admit the Idea is better refined...and the respective prices reflect this!!I don't have any infos on the new Croma yet, but I've some expectations about this model...with a little hope about the general refinement and motorizations;)

Taller cars like the idea giving larger amounts of uusable space due to the shape your body takes. You are lying down less and hence need less forward/backward room.

1.9 turbo diesel? Is that the multikjet? If so, why only 100hp?

I predict the Idea will not last out the year - I don't know why manufacturers expect to sell these cars just because they are taller and they call them MPV's when the truth is they have no extra 'purposes' than any other small car!

In my opinion Fiat should concentrate on producing a profitable competitively priced Mondeo/Vectra/406/Octavia/Laguna class estate rather than producing so many small cars they can't sell them all!

Any other opinions on this?

the Focus Cmax offers a commanding driving position and a good bit more interior space than the standard focus, also the door openings are much bigger making it easier to load children/shopping/diy stuff. i don't like the way it looks though,

Fiat already have Alfa Romeo for the saloon car class so don't really need to make a similar fiat badged model, and given that the marea saloon was the joint worst depreciating saloon (tied with BMW 740 i think) Fiat would do well to steer clear of this market and stick to what it does best

It's true Fiat have Alfa but the thing is here in the UK (and prob. Eire as well?) Alfa are not in the same league as Ford,Vauxhall,Fiat in that they don't have as many dealerships and also are pretty expensive I think taking in the more upper class market.

It just seems to me that when people decide they want a new car Alfa is not often one of the showrooms they would look round...

all fiat dealers ive seen here sell alfas too. the 155 1.6 is similarly priced to mondeo/vectras

But how many 155's do you see on the road compared to Vectras+Mondeos? Not a lot where I am!

sorry, meant 156 as opposed to 155. they're really popular over here, more so than audi a4 or bmw 3 or even vectra

Oh right, well It could be a different situation over in Ireland then because you just don't see Alfas much where I am in Essex. In fact they are so uncommon I didn't even know there was a 156, which I guess is the updated 155, but that's probably just me being stupid!

Pretty smart - I really hate the number plate being on the side though.

Forget the Punto.... The exsternal size is the same, but inside is quite different!!!... It's a MPV....

For finding the same space you will get into a Stilo...
Test it and you will understand my words...

For this, it probably will be the next car of my parents...
