I actually saw a 2003 B advertised for sale some years ago which had a towbar fitted. The same vehicle was on the market again earlier this year, this time without the towbar.
I was wondering what you can actually tow with it, as according to the owner's handbook the max towable weight for a trailer with brakes is only 450kg (or 400kg for a trailer without brakes) and the max load on the ball joint is only 35kg. I suppose you could use it to mount a bicycle rack on it.
Yes a towbar is fully supported by Fiat for the Barchetta. The owners handbook has fully fitting/mounting details.
The Barchetta is a Punto HGT with the top lopped off.
A Punto HGT can tow 1000kg braked trailer
A Barchetta 450kg brake and 400kg unbraked. 35kg ball loading.
Basically the Brachetta towing limit is NOT related to engine/gearbox/drive capability but is limited by kerb weight and chassis structure.
So for the Barchetta small trailers, bike racks are all possible and supported given the 450/400kg pull capacity and a 35kg maximum tow ball loading weight.
Well we have owned a Punto HGT, great car, towed a caravan with a Punto HGT and then swopped the Punto HGT for our current Barchetta (without tow bar )
So when I say the Barchetta is a Punto HGT with the top lopped off I know what I'm talking about
Well almost, errr, now where did the rear seat go when the top got lopped off?
Where has my rear wiper gone?
Why am I sitting on the correct Fiat driving side (Left Hand) for a change?
Mind you the Punto HGT lacked a wind stop, didn't look as cool and sexy as a 'B', didn't handle quite a well as a 'B' but still a cool car.
