General Autoexpress: Fiat 500 versus rivals.

Auto Express loves anything and everything from BMW so it was a foregone conclusion that the Mini would win.

It’s amazing that, even though the 500 is nearly £3000 cheaper than the equipment light Mini, they still manage to put it in first place. They even mention those famous Fiat residuals but, judging by the number of Mini desertions on here, its the Mini's residuals they should be more concerned about!

Fiat ain't got nothing to worry about with the 500 (cept reliability and good customer service;) so far so good fingers crossed)...not only did they just bring out a super cool car, it's cute too and you don't look like a snob driving it...AND...the build quality is superb....haven't driven one very far yet but apart from that horror story that ms.Cinq posted a couple o threads back it feels reliable as well.

Most of all though the price is FAIR! Unlike the mini.

Anyway...I don't want to get into a mini/500 xbox vs ps3 type row, there are good points to a mini I suppose but 500 is the only car that, just from sheer cuteness, has managed to completely steal my loyalties from merc!! Never thought that could happen!!

Oh and yeah, don't know HOW those bores at autoexpress could STILL like the mini after seeing the 500 in the metal WTF?

It really amazes me how they always want to compare the Mini and 500, I assume it can only be because they are retro, so why not compare the Beetle in there as well...... ok maybe not lol!

I drive Mini's on a regular basis and to be entirely honest they are night and day. The Mini is far better handling car. HOWEVER.... it is also a lot more expensive and bigger and should be compared to the Grande - NOT the 500 and in a lot of areas the Grande is the better car (far better diesel for example).

The 500 should be compared against the Smart, Citroen C2, Micra, 107 etc where it totally outshines the competition with the exception of the C2 which is a reall hoot to drive but still comes in 2nd IMO.

They hated the 1.2 engine didnt they... how come they only got 15.3 0-60 when Fiat say around 12? Im a bit concerned about not being able to try a 1.2:(
Mmm, that got me worried too. It has to be a misprint or wrong information, surely  The thing is, both Auto Express and Autocar have tested the 1.2 before and said it was the pick of the petrol engines. Everything seems to be contradicting each other.

Don't worry the one I drove was awesome and had to lift the bonnet to make sure it was'nt the 1.4:eek:. Having driven both the 1.3mjt & the 1.2, both great motors. I prefered the less vibrations and noise from the 1.2 (i thought it suited the 500 more).
Don't know where the car mag got its figures from as it certainly did'nt feel sluggish.....quite the opposite(y)

Cheers
