ASDA Petrol

dunno what it is but i dont use ASDA or Morrisons anymore as they upset my uno, i stick by my Tesco petrol now, it seems as good if not a little better than Shell, i find my cars more powerful and responsive on tesco petrol (y)

it will take your ecu time to re adjust to the lower octane. what you usally use optimax?

No, mostly been using total normal unleaded, for about 4 months now, always total.

The car seems to be missing the little mid range grunt it had.

Once filled the stilo up at tescos about 3 months after i got it and I got 5 minutes down the road when it cut out and then behaved badly until it was used up, even garage said was possibly the petrol that caused that problem.

i have known tesco to have a bad batch previously but normally its brillient here, and i get loads of clubcard points as i spend £40+ on petrol a week

My Bravo seems to splutter a lot when running on 'supermarket' petrol, sometimes to the point of nearly cutting out. I usually use Total or BP and have had no problems with either.

I found the same with Asda fuel Dan my stilo didnt like the stuff at all I cant get the super now at Tesco's so I have been useing the super at Sainsbury's and that has been fine (y)

I normally use sainsburys or tesco petrol, always been fine for me but filled up with BP (whatever there version of optimax is called, ultimate maybe can't remember) the other day, used about half the tank and now the car runs a dream, pulls better mid-range and is alot smoother when idle. Bit pricey mind!!

Morrisons diesel (sorry to go a little off topic) made a right mess of my diesel tipo's fuel filter. Often bad fuel is the result of suppliers going too low on their fuel tanks and selling the fuel from the bottom of the tanks. Shell and some other bigger suppliers won't go below something like 1000litres where as supermarkets will sell down to the last drop, this drags up any sludge in the bottom of the tanks. This could explain why you can often get very bad batches of fuel in supermarkets, especially when it often comes from the same refineries.

I know about these levels as during the last fuel crisis the guy in the Shell shop allowed me to fill the Tipo on Optimax after it had been closed. He explained that although there were a few thousand litres in the tanks they don't like to take them too low. It can also cause potential explosive conditions. He put the fuel through as normal unleaded so he didn't get into trouble, and I got extra plus points.

I used to use Sainsburys petrol but recently I have been using BP and found that my MPG have increased by quite a bit and the car drives smoother.

I also managed to find a BP garage thats quite close by and is 1p cheaper per litre than the Sainsburys and Esso/Tesco garages.

My recent findings:

BP - 96.9p/litre - Average 43MPG
Sainsburys & Esso/Tesco - 97.9p/litre - Average 39MPG

I know which garage Im gunna stick with (until the prices go up again)

Unfortunatly by me Si BP petrol is 99.9p for 95 ron (n)

The asda fuel could well have been Shell or Texaco, they have agreements whereby if one is running low, the other companies supply petrol. The problem with the usual Tesco and other supermarket stuff is there are no detergents in the petrol, that helps clean and lube the engine.
Also petrol is very volatile and it is feasible you just got a bad batch, this could happen at any petrol station though.

God I'm good! Nah, I got clued up reading EVO, they quizzed a top fuel exec a few months back.

maybe some cars are fussy and some cars aren't both the cars i have had run fine on anything.

the bravo seems a little quicker on tesco 97 though too be honest. but as for economy there does not seem to be a major difference with anything i use.
