General An appreciating classic

Now we're talking gentlemen! I have been trawling eBay and these appear a bargain. Theres a nice 05 model and it appears to include a blonde in the driving seat too. :D I know nothing about these cars - the claim for an average 30mpg from a 4.2 litre V8 seems optimistic. Does anybody know anything about this engine? I am going to find one locally and go and have a look/drive.

Love the comment about the Granada. It is a credit to the police drivers who used these a patrol cars for years. Powerful rear wheel drive and no traction control was/is a totally different experience.

Steve

No idea where you live but I think these are close to me

From yesterday's Guardian financial pages, an article entitled "Classic cars prove to be a investment vehicle with top performance":

"Forget stocks and shares, the FT and the London Stock Exchange: the truly savvy investor is buying up classic cars, reading Octane Magazine and hanging out at Goodwood racetrack. And if you are up for a flutter – in investment terms – then go straight for those red cars made in Italy. " (italics supplied)

So according to the Guardian, you've already cracked it, Steve! :D

Lately I've been driving past a car showroom and noticed what looked like an old Porsche speedster, after finally getting down for a close inspection I've discovered its a vehicle built by a company called PGO from France.

As you can see it has very similar looks to the Porsche although the running gear is from Peugeot. They sell for just under 30K

These are some pics I found on the net but the one in Cyprus is the same in Metallic blue and he's asking 25,000euro

Very nice me thinks :D (y)

So, imagine you are as old as me - high 50's. You have a budget of £18k and you want to buy a car that will be reliable, useable but not necessarily for everyday use, special and will ultimately maintain it's value. What will it be? A serious question friends and I would appreciate your thoughts. Steve

Hi Bumble, Time has passed and I just wondered if you have made your mind up yet as to what if any classic you have decided upon?
Looking forward to seeing some pics of your appreciating classic when you do get one.

Hi friends. Not forgotten but a wedding next year has put a dent in the plans. Retirement is also on the back burner. For those Barchetta owners currently childless, remember, contraception is a wonderful thing! :D

Don't worry Bumble I had 2 boys and have told the (younger) wife that sex is banned until she runs off with someone else.

I am also holding onto my appreciating classic (Rover 420 GSI in Red) for you, but you may have to wait quite a few years before anyone else wants it lol

Ha! With two daughters in their mid 20s, both of whom are now "going steady" (that phrase dates me, doesn't it!) I suppose I should be saving my pennies too.

But then again, my missus and I set them a good example by having a DIY wedding. She made her dress, we prepared all the food - including the cake - and we held the reception at my in-laws' house. The only thing we didn't DIY was the priest!!

So, if they want anything more than that, they can chip in themselves!
