Alloys & Brake dust!!!

I'm getting my alloys resprayed atm, when they get back from the 'shop I'm thinking I'll clean them with a Clay Bar, as wheel cleaners may be too abrasive for a paint finish, and it does a brilliant job of removing tar spots etc on the bodywork

Well i have never heard of a bar of clay before???..what is that (i know it may be clay but thought i will ask)...and to people who say green stuff pads do not shead dust i think all pads have to shred some dust even the green stuff types as there website says there is no such thing as a dust free pad...but they are reduced dust pads...i think it is all down to the EU...they forced british manufactures to remove the asbestosfrom pads in case we inhaled it in?????...now black wheels...and pads that last 8 months max...

Clay Bar is like a knob of silly putty (remember that stuff?:D !!) that you run over the surface (having sprayed it with a soapy spray) and it lifts off surface contaminents that washing doesn't get rid of (You know when you wax the car and you see tiny specks picking up the wax on the surface?)
Check out this site for info :http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/guides.html

You need to be a little bit careful with clay, can easily scratch the paintwork if you aren't. For tar I like to use AG intensive tar remover - more effective and less likely to damage. A cheaper alternative is parafin.

For wheels I just use a normal bodywork polish everynow and then and wash them with standard car shampoo to keep them looking bling.

Greenstuff pads are very effective at reducing brake dust and are pretty good at stopping the car too.

I use WonderWheels on my Minis wheels, doesnt do them any harm. Depends on the quality of the lacquer I guess. The lacquer tends to peel on cheaper alloys.

I used to use EBC Greenstuff pads, they're useless. Not much dust but dont perform as well as they say they do, so gone back to EBC Blackstuff now and got no dust on the alloys at all.

I even tried getting the Greenstuff pads hot to see if they performed better but they dont. Waste of money IMHO.

I always clean mine once a week so it doesnt tend to build up.

well yes it is an acid based cleaner and it will oe day get through the surface and attaxk the alloys but it will take quite some time but quicker if you have a scratch going into the alloy itself...dam dust....they removed asbestosfrom the padsas orderd by the eu...i have never heard of anyone breathing in asbestos dust deliberatly and then again i have not seen a a death byt pads??? have you..lol but that is why they get so dusty i think.......for the person who wanted a picture of the alloy i am looking for please find attached.........pic
