Anyone upgraded the air filter on GP 2008? I was looking at a cone filter with a pipe for just aesthetics as my pipe isn’t supplied to my GP he never come with it. So question.. would one off the shelf fit, and/or would you need to take the whole plastic shroud off to achieve this. Obviously removing the existing filter box housing.

For reference anyone know the part number of said air pipe if I went OEM route and replaced it

Anything after the MAF sensor which is usually fitted just after the air filter should be left, alone as original, so the readings from the MAF sensor are correctly recognised by the ECU to control fuel measurements correctly.
Even a loose clip can give a bad reading, due to unmeasured air bypassing the MAF sensor.
Running any sort of aftermarket air filter inside the engine compartment is not a good idea no matter how efficient it is.
The reason is that air drawn into the engine from hot area under bonnet is less dense, meaning less Oxygen and less power.
This is why most modern cars intake to the air filter draws cold air from the front of the grill, usually fairly high up to prevent water ingress if driven through flood water, which would destroy an engine.:)

Ah I see thanks 🙏 So would it be more worthy to buy the replacement pipe as said mine doesn’t have one so it and fit it to its original intake position of the front grill?

You may not physically feel a difference but it is probably best, if you can get one at a fair price.
The important thing is not to "rig" up a intake from the front low down, due as I mentioned to the danger of water getting into the engine, even a deep puddle can do it. It is called "hydraulic lock" and often requires engine replacement!
I don't know if you have ever noticed, if driving on a cold damp, early morning your car feels like it is really "singing along", if you have it is largely due to the more "Oxygen dense" cold air than in the middle of a hot day and less to do with fewer cars on the road and a heavy right foot.;)
As youngsters we all wanted our cars to sound "fast" so fitted Sports Air Filters and aftermarket exhausts, in general without other more serious modifications the cars went worse.:)

The max power car days? But it sounds faster right 😅 foot like sterling moss 😉. I’ll look for one I see them going for £20 ish on eBay.
