I'm 50 in a few months and am amazed how much small cars like the Panda have improved since 1973 when I passed my test. So long ago you actually had to do hand signals as part of the test.
One of my first cars was a 1965 Hillman Imp made by Rootes who are now Peugeot. It was reare-engined! an all alloy single overhead cam unit of 875cc quite advanced for its time in that respect but looking back the spec was well basic.
Top speed 80.8 (Autocar test figure for 3rd May 1963)
0-60 in 23.7 seconds
Drum brakes all round, no abs or any such like
4 speed box
Fan for heater - optional extra
No electric windows, mirrors or screen washers, single speed wipers
No reclining seats or rear seat belts
no central locking or anti-theft devices or hazard warning lights
manual choke, carb, no fuel injection
But with a good heavy tool box in the front to compensate for most of the weight being over the rear wheels it could see off a standard mini on a good twisty A road.
Now I have a Panda dualogic, just because Im old doesnt mean I can't enjoy technology. And the Panda has enough go and comforts for me.
