I have a Ducato base motorhome on a 2005 plate. The engine is a 2.0JTD. Despite remapping, change of air mass sensor, CRV, etc; it lacks power on slight inclines, and on steeper hills it just doesn't like them. My question is can I change the engine from the 1.9JTD to 2.3 JTD, and if so what will be involved? Also any approximate idea of costs involved. Thanks

Here are some observations on the proposal.

The gearbox for the 2.0jtd has different ratios for some gears, when compared to those for the 2.3jtd, and the 2.8jtd which was also fitted to x244 Ducato models.
Without careful checking, I do not know whether the braking system would need uprating. Does your 2.0jtd have drum brakes at the rear?

You would need engine complete with wiring harness and ECU. Whether the harness would marry directly with the existing vehicle harness would need careful examination.
The new ECU would not be directly compatible with the existing code receiver for the immobiliser. So more problems.

Having made the jottings above, there is a forum member engaged in replacing a common rail engine, with an earlier mechanical injection engine.
