Hi Guys,

I am in the process of exporting my wifes Panda 4x4 Climbing and my Sedici to Belgium (both RHD). I understand that we will need to have rear fog lights on the left rear of each car. Any suggestions or tips? Will the wiring loom work with a LHD rear light cluster, or will I need to run an additional set of wires, or will I have to go for a bolt on extra fog light?

Best

David

i wouldn't know for certain, but it may be possible that the wiring will already be in place however it may be RHD specific. try removing the rear lights, look for any un-connected wires. should be similar in colour to the other side with the connected fog light.

why has it only got one fog light at the rear though? surely it should have one on each corner. i'm sure my teapot does.

Oh! Got all excited then at the prospect of an 'original' Panda going to live abroad - see extract from an earlier post...

And now that we are leaving the UK we are taking to Belgium a Panda MKII 4X4 Climbing and a Sedici.

...then realised the 'Climbing' tag means new Panda

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the suggestions, will try and take a look at the rear light cluster pin-outs over the weekend!

My doblo only has one rear fog - yet the lens is there for the one on the nearside (but no lampholder!) - and I have reverse lamps both sides.

Peugeot used to do that with their 205 iirc, and Rover with the Metro and the bumper mounted rear fog. Other side on metro was just a reflector I think.

This is a big problem for the guys in Germany who buy RHD vehicles. Sometimes a change of cluster will do the job but in some cases the only action is to fit an additional lamp under the bumper on the NS.

Probably a question for Fiat UK technical boys.

Why's this the only action in other cases?

Only time I can see this being a problem is if they can't get the correct rear lense, which you can for the Panda.

This is down to penny pinching again and I know that a few pennies saved per car by a volume producer amounts to quite a tidy sum over the years so you understand their reasons. However, you technically commit a crime every time you take a car abroad and who wants to hang a crappy aftermarket fog light on the back of their car nowadays.

If it was listed as an option I bet the majority would pay to have fog lights both sides or if it was able to be easily retrofitted (like the bootlight on my 500 Sport) then people would do it but it would be necessary for the wiring loom to be accessible and a simple connector present.

Connecting any electrical component to a modern electrical system (canbus etc.) is fraught with problems so the manufacturers need to have a rethink. IMHO.

how about just buying the continental reversing cluster (right hand one) then putting a red bulb in the passenger side and run a 2 core cable across the boot to swap feeds from each light?

I was told that due to the very fine tolerances that the canbus system is subject to that adding any additional loading to the circuit could give erroneous readouts, eg. bulb warning failure.

That was why it was easy to fit the boot light as the connector was already there and as the lounge has it as standard there were no problems.

then again i was told the same and have added a towbar with no ill effects ;)

the bulb failure warning only covers certain lights dont think it monitors the reverse and fog on the GP

But by swapping the sides of illumination by changing light units for LHD units and rewiring them you won't be adding any additional loading ;)

A bit late but an update.

For the Panda I bought LHD light stack on Ebay, we took a feed from the foglight to the new LHD fog light, not problem. The hard part was getting the red lens out of the RHD light to get it to show white as the new reversing light! For my Sedici we had to get an accessory fog light and mount it on the left. Both cars were registered in Belgium with no problems. Since then we have moved to Germany and both cars have TuV's and are now plated for Germany, also no problems............
