Technical ABS or non ABS?

mia was the fred flinstone of the punto range so normally no abs, but of course an oddball order might throw one up
look for a box of bits directly behind battery sprouting brake pipes to confirm abs present or of course you could look for the symbol on startup on the dashboard

I love my Fred fintstone car, lol. No ABS light on the dash, I Will be under the bonnet tomorrow with the steam cleaner so Will take a look, thanks

As S&b as said it wont have ABS.

Brakes wont lock up because it will more than likely have a load rating valve on rear beam,

if you look in middle of rear subframe you might see a lever with a spring on,
this is the critter that stops the back brakes locking up,

No abs is good btw, Less is sometimes Best, :D

AAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH no not good steam cleaning
too many connections / ecu you can get water in
make sure you wrap them all up well and avoid spraying on them directly
ok many will say "i do mine every spring" but how long before you start having problems with carbon tracking between pins, only thing to do then is replace units
gunk and a paint brush and rinse with watering can or hose round non electric bits

You have been warned

the punto is a good braking car
If done correctly, you can cook the brakes while ripping your face off and lungs out the eye sockets

With a good brake setup tho - you should be able to get the wheels to lock up
I'd be wondering if you honestly cant, whats wrong with your brakes

Little bit of air?
Worn pads?

Make sure you not braking - then braking abit harder
Literally stamp on the brakes like your whole life depends on it

But make sure its safe to test - dont do it when a sodding bus or lorry is behind you....

Quiet empty road and test

my owners manual says wash under bonnet every spring:)
mind my driving licence also tells me to split it by tearing down the dotted line but last time i did that a bobby stopped me:confused:

It's possible its my breaking method. But my next job is front disks and pads as I don't know how long they have been on, and rear drums and shoes and also hand break cables. I have a tapping noise from the rear when breaking, I know the casing on one of the cables is broken and exposing the cables a little. Iv put copper grease on it to protect it untill I change it. The drums look old and crusty so Will change them and shoes

If a jobs worth doing..........

you may find that your rear shoes are stuck and havent adjusted
This means your pedal goes further to make them work = Less pressure on the fronts
AS fluid goes the easiest route possible

I'd be getting the drums off - getting the lip removed and the glaze to allow the pads to bite in again

Ensure you deglaze the shoes after cleaning the friction spots using a little bit of copper grease to allow them to move freely

The rear drums get crusty looking but can be sometimes perfectly fine, a wire wheel to get rid of the worst may help cosmetically :)

Strip, clean and rebuild, brakes do respond better that way, it also shows really whats needed
