As a newbie I have little knowledge of who in southern California works well on the 850 models, specifically mechanicals like engine, transmission, brakes...?
Thank you for any input.

First - welcome to 850 Spider ownership! Secondly, from my ~5yrs of 850 Spider ownership and following on the forums here and elsewhere - there are not many shops that cater to these Fiats. Most people are maintaining these vehicles themselves - and there are plenty of resources available with some searching online (repair manuals, parts diagrams, etc.).

Still, I hope others post in your thread to offer experience with shops to get specific components and systems of their 850s repaired. And, I hope they recommend shops not just in CA. I'd like to have some backup options here in SE Michigan :)

Thanks very much for your response.
In 1969 when my wife and I got married we headed off in our brand new FIAT 850 spider (a dark, rich green color).
It's possible I'm over my head with this one (a '72 in a very bright but faded tone of green). The intent, based in nostalgia, was to have a little runabout for fun top-down outings together.
At my age I think, perhaps hope, that the brain will let me do some work on the car myself. But neuropathy in my arms and hands has robbed me ofmy youthful strength and fineness. I appreciate your comments and feel determined to give it a go. I just hope I can get some good help when my "go" hits a snag.

I found out an aunt & uncle of mine had an 850 back in day when they lived in Switzerland. I want to get mine running so I can let them take it for a nostalgic drive - but I need to get my butt in gear and just get it done! ;)

As for your situation, I totally understand. I wonder when the effects of time/age will make it difficult to stay in this hobby, as well. I hope to find that one of my grandchildren or a curious neighbor with younger arms might be available to help me while they learn to wrench when that time comes.
