Overheated and blew the head gasket a few years ago. Have had her in storage until recently.

Installed a remanufactured cylinder head. Changed out the valve tappet shims to have them all in the right gap range.

She starts easy and idles nicely. When accelerating, she sounds a little burbly (technical term, lol) and doesn't have the power I remember.

Not certain I have the timing quite correct.

Plugs are new.

Running premium gas, but I haven't swapped the fuel filter yet.

Hoping for suggestions of what else I should try first. Will do the fuel filter for sure. Wondering what else you all might suggest I try next. Hoping to try the cheap and easy things first with crossed fingers. Lol

Was all the fuel , tank and carbs drained before storage?

I can report that a fresh fuel filter has solved the power issue. Yay for that! And during the swap, I discovered that the clamp connecting the muffler to the exhaust pipe had worked itself loose and that has solved the burbly exhaust note. So win win!
