Hi Guys

Long time... After a full service, all lubs engine, box bearings, sparks, ignition & grease on the diff I've made the decsion to take 'Eve' ('87 4x4) to Swindon tomorrow - c. 170 miles round trip.

There is a fantasic run down the A417/9(?) past the Air Ballon public house (return to M5 direction). I'm going to go for a Top Speed mission. Cars pass me down there in the everyday motor at well past 90.

If anyone is interested i'll post the result tomorrow.

ElgiN

PS - On 4 x Axle Stands stands last month during big undercoat mission me and Berg Stigson got it to 110/112 before valve bounce - so the gear rations/FIRE lump will take it!

Hmm.. I know the road well, but it's still speeding and that's naughty :D

If you want a really good place to do a maximum speed run, I know a stretch of autobahn down by the Moselle valley that's downhill for several miles.. I didn't know until I discovered that road that it was possible to get an indicated 210kmh/130mph out of a 1.4 Ford Focus (rented, of course :p ). It didn't appear to enjoy the experience, though - it was running a bit rough by the time I dropped it back at the airport .

Cheers,

Plug

I've had an indicated 95mph down a straight stretch on the M25. Plenty of other traffic though, that was just the speed the outside lane was going at. Think it could have gone slightly faster if there were no other cars/ slightly down hill.

From sat nav i think 70mph shows as about 74 on the speedo so 95 on the speedo was maybe 88/89mph

i lucky to get 85

my car does need servicing and a leak looked at

when i first drove it home i got some dirty looks when i was passing people in the fast lane :D

In our old Selecta we ran out of numbers. Naughty I know but fun. On a nice clear M20 coming back from Dover.

I would have paid a fortune to see the faces of the people we flew past.

Just make sure its a nice flat piece of road though. Can remember following a corsa at ~100 round some slight corners on the M4/M25 and the back end really jumping over the bumps. Of course i wasnt in the panda and wasnt driving either

Hi

... Not the speed expected ... :bang: BETTER! :slayer:

Started with a frosty start, closed the fresh air vents and set off - by M5 J9 open vents realise need a new heater matrix, yeap warm/hot only! Anyway, didn't push much past 70 all the way to Swindon.

Return, got to the Air Ballon, turned left and down the hill. Basically trafiic down the hill 'good as the corners I wouldn't want to try much past 60!' then toward the bottom I eased off then dropped it to 4th and up to 75, 5th engaged - still down hill. Surprisingly Eve accelerated to 80, 82, 83, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 89.5, 90, 90.5, 91, 91.2, 91.4, 91.2, 91.5, 91.7 - last bit - 91.5 MPH! That's the best she'd do - tyically a Passet Estate TDi passed me but he/she must of thought something seeing Eve's blue 4x4 badge!

Excellent. Enjoyed myself.

BTW - Alan, yeap me and Berg Stigson just had to test if the fire & box could do the 100! Today I've learnt not on the road... Bring on the 75 1242!:worship:

Doing a 'top speed' run on axle stands won't give an idea of the true top speed. There's no resistance on the wheels and tyres, nor driveshafts so the figure you get will be totally inaccurate.

But the drive shafts sit very low when she's on axle stands and could cause damage at that speed or worse

Plus if something broke/ came off at that speed... Dangerous thing to do really :nutter:

hahahaha over 100 on axle stands !!! FE*IN HELL !!

im imagine if it fell off them !! could make a hole in nearby garage / house.
love it. i dont think id do it. but still. haha

i want to see what my top spped is now the 16valve conversion is done :yum:
the punto it was from is supposed to reach 115mph i think
and i have 10 - 15 more bhp than standard.

i dont think i dare !

My 750 mania with 5 speed gearbox tops out at 76mph on flat motorway in 5th. In 4th its top speed is 79mph.
I've once got it to do 85mph in 5th down a big hill on the M3.
I hope to improve these figures when i've fitted new contact breaker points and vacuum advance.(y)

Got 85 down hill in the 750L (four speed), and used to cruse at 80 easily, but since new exhaust has been fitted will struggle to sit at 70 :( I'm convinced there is something wrong with exhaust! Feels like its blowing from a joint at high speed, but when on the ramp at the fitters, they put they're hand over end of exhaust and say nothings wrong when I know there obviously is!

Sounds like it's blocked.

Could be. It seems fine when driving around town, but when it comes to dual carragways its not a speedy as it used to be, only being a 769cc I know it isn't designed for performance or speed, but anyone should be able to notice when there is a problem with one of 'their fleet', and with such little power in the first place you notice even the smallest of changes with the 750.

Wow, I never knew they went that fast. I got mine to 50mph the other day & cooled off cos I got nervous

Book top speed according to the hand book which came with the panda is 78MPH, but I'm told these are always done (for all cars including new cars today) with new engines, and so they're not run in, so normally after 20-30k miles performance will increase, inc speed and MPG etc.
