Technical 2017 Fiat 550x service power steering warning light

My 2017 Fiat 500x has a service power steering light that comes on and shuts down the motor. Nothing feels weird about the steering before this happening. Happened in drive for the second time this morning at a stop light. Put the car in park and it reset and then could start up and drive again. Took to an auto parts store and no codes were found. If the steering is failing it should code a C1002. Why is the engine shutting down?

I've not experienced this on my 500x but I have seen the problem on other Fiats. On those it is usually a failing battery, alternator or battery wiring. Have you checked those?
