Hi all

I have an issue with my van, looking for advice/name of parts needed to fix it. The rear barn doors lock and unlock fine and open using the internal handle, but the external handle seems broken. There is no resistance when you pull on it to open the door and it doesn't release the latch. So every time I want to use the rear door I have to go into the cargo area via the side door and open from inside.

It was working fine till January, and looking at it the 'rod' is hanging loose and there is a round plastic part that seems to have detached (and looks slightly broken) pics below.

Anyone have a photo or diagram of how it should look or the parts I need to replace to fix it? Any help/advice gratefully received as it's driving me mad......

Thanks

Hello,

Looking at ePER, which is the FIAT spare parts catalogue (link on the bottom of the forum banner, search window is top left), I can see that:

It seems that the handle is sold as one piece :( However there are 6 different handles depending on the specification:

It allowed me to find photos of how it should be installed. I will post links, so you could see more of them.

Before you purchase one of those, check with the dealership what is the correct part number for you van, as I'm affraid you VIN number will not be recognised by the forum ePER, the van beeing too young.

I could also ask at the dealership it by chance they didn't have an idea to make and sell repair kits for those handles, with all those easily breakable plastic parts...

Oh wow, thank you so much, that really really helpful, the pics are what I was looking for, somehow I thought it would be a part separate to the handle mechanism. I will have a look at buying the whole bit.

It looks strange to me, too, so as suggested in the previous post, I'd ask at the dealership, perhaps there's a repair kit available (that contains the easily breakable plastic parts).

To my knowledge: For X290, and I think X250 also, the push rod which is loose in your case, transfers the key "lock/unlock command" from the external handle to the lock. The "open the door command" is transferred via two Bowden cables, from the internal and external handles respektively. If the door is locked when pulling the internal handle, the "open the door command" also unlocks, but the external handle does not. So I assume that once your door is opened and closed again, it can only be locked electrically with the remote, and not mechanically by turning the key in the door (since the push rod is loose)?

Picture of my lock, taken when I had it removed to exchange the handle to another model:

Edit: another picture, showing the handle I installed. The push rod with a loose end (to be connected to the lock) is the same as shown in the above picture. It was ordered separately and not included with the handle :
