Hi Everyone,
new to the forum and first post.
i am replacing the gear shift cable and having trouble getting the center console apart, without breaking anything. are there any tricks to doing this? i have the long slender piece that goes over the e-brake handle off. i've removed all the nuts and screws i can find. i need to get part #3 off to get access to the shift cables, but seems like i can't take 3 off without take #2 off first, i think i was close to getting #2 off, but i think the connections to the lighter/aux plugs are preventing me from getting #2 off all the way. then i assume #4 would be last. but i am stuck right now, again, trying to figure out how these pop off without breaking anything. any ideas would be much appreciated.

thanks --Brian

On the eu cars you need to remove your part no.2 before you can remove the lower trim 3 in your pic, look for hidden bolts then it generally un clips some are pop off style so require a little persuasion or slide out, look for nut in cup holder say or near your bottom left arrow

at number 2, there are two cup holders. the cup holder at the #2 arrow had a nut to remove and also a nut just in front of the parking brake lever. then one at the backend of the parking brake handle. i'll try not to make this too confusing, but like i mentioned above, i 'think' i almost had the #2 piece off, but the two plugs were preventing that so i think i need to find someway to unplug them

No, i didn't even notice that forum, I just saw the 2007+ and went with that one :) .
thanks for pointing that out for me. i will definitely take a look at that right now.
thanks for reaching out! --Brian

If you do take it apart when removing the screws it pays to have one of those magnetic extendable tools to hold next to the screw as you loosen the final few threads it grabs it straight away and stops it making a bid for freedom down the inside of the console never to be seen again!

just couldnt figure it out, so i spent $18 for alldata. just below the #4 arrow (at the seam), take a small pry tool and that 'lid' pops up (whew...didnt break anything). it pops up and there are two electric connections to remove. once that lid is up/connections removed, it can be removed to get it out of the way. there are 4 screws that can then be removed to get the #3 piece off. there is a small electrical connnection attached to #3, but i did not disconnect it, there was enough room to move part #3 off to the passenger side so its out of the way. the above pic, 1 and 2 are one piece, 2 is the cup holder, the only thing i ended up doing with that is removing one nut in the front and one on the back side, that allowed me to lift the rear of #1 that just simply helped a little to get piece 3 off. so...i've got everything removed now......on to the shift cable!! --Brian
