My panda 4x4 has 54800 on the clock and I recently had a reconditioned prop-shaft put on as there was an MOT advisory on the center bearing and it turned out the rubber had completed perished. However since then I have been having an intermittent knocking noise. Only happens when the car has been running and is warm. Sometimes you hear nothing, other times when you reverse slowly. When I am moving forward say at the red - green lights you will hear a knock. It is driving me mad. Any ideas?? Oh before you say it, I took it back to the prop-shaft guy who said everything was sound!

Possibly the 'drop link's that connect the front antiroll bar to the suspension struts. These wear out (indeed are considered sacrificial) and cause a single knock sound when pulling away and also over small bumps in the road. They tend not to 'clonk' during when you are braking. If the 'dog bone' engine support (so called because of its shape) is falling, this tends to be heard as two or more knocks in succession during both acceleration and braking.

Dog bone...
