Already cost me £216 + £20 shipping charges at "Crash Data" in Liverpool , and they say "due to damage on the multi-layered circuit board deeming the module unrepairable " so they are sending it back to me, They will do a "code up" for £115, if i get a donor part, which on e-bay is around £150.00, so another £255.00, on top of the £236 i have already spent, which means it will cost me around £501. seems a lot for just a smal part.

Might find someone if you was to google "auto electronics repair" or might be better just to replace the module!
Did nor realise you had already had it diagnosed! sorry bit unfortunate that its almost beyond repair! and its true that the parts aint cheep + the cost of re-coding as well sometimes its bitter pill to swallow i agree!

Why does it need to be re-coded ?, could i not just do a proxy alignment ?

I believe they have to be "virginised" to ensure they have no data recorded on them (such as crash date etc) which many 2nd hand ones are sold with!.
Once fitted needs a proxy to make sure the new module is communicating with the other ecu,s- have heard you might need to back up the other ecu,s data to ensure no settings are lost when the proxy is done! other more knowledgeable members may chip in with more details!.

Can you not just use MES to clear the data on the donor module ?

From what i remember i dont think you can because people would be able to delete the crash data and the like themselves !-which has implications via the insurance companys etc!.
Why not search the forums for airbag module threads- its sure to be in there somewhere!, unless a more clued up member can answer this question for you!

Can you drive / use car without the airbag module connected / installed, whilst waiting for it be be fixed ?

Again even if its mechanically possible? you would not be insured as the car would be considered unsound and unsafe!.
I used Crash data uk, who could not fix the fault, and chagred me £49, and they sent the item back, so i then sent it to https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/404822706796, they charged £95.00 and is now back and fixed, great result.
