1. On starting the engine the EOBD amber indicator light flashes on the indicator panel. The car engine vibrates. The exhaust is slightly smokey initially and gives a foul smell.
Can I drive the car for about an hour to the service station?
2. I experience resistance when moving the gear stick into 3rd gear, either upwards or downwards.
3. Having installed a new central lock for the drivers door, It is not operational remotely. What could be the cause?

I face resistance when changing gears from 2nd to 3rd and from 4th to 3rd. In order to engage in the 3rd gear I double clutch the peddle or when going from the 4th to the 3rd I change to 2nd and then go the 3rd. What is the best way to address this issue.?

Hi, I'm sorry you haven't had any response. Not many Lineas on here.

I understand it uses the C514 gearbox, common to lots of models so I'm sure the answer is on here. Plenty of info in the Grande Punto section, a similar car.

My thoughts would be:
1. Is it better with engine off? If so, probably cables.
2. Hydraulic clutch? If so, bleed slave cylinder, check for any signs of leaks at master and slave, check fluid level
3. With engine off, remove cable ends from gearbox selectors and try moving the selectors on the box by hand. If still stiff going into third, I would suspect selector mechanism on top of the box. There's a roll pin that can become dislodged in the selector shaft, making gear selection difficult. Also any sign of leaks in this area?
