According to AutoData manual engine temp 72-76degrees.
On the 1997 2.8idt Ducato engine I ran in the boat I never drove full power until temp was up to 80 degrees.
I find many diesels run cold due to thermostat opening early or stuck open and once fixed they run quieter, more efficient and less smoke.

I cannot see why not, as long as the pipe to the gauge has much lower volume than the inlet manifold. It should have!
I was trying to remember where I fitted the boost gauge in my boat, I see I made an adaptor in the turbo hose on it's way from the water cooled intercooler up to the inlet manifold. For my purposes it was fitted bottom right of photo, I Tippexed where I set the pressure to, not sure but possibly around 20psi after adjustment of turbo and fuel metering.
Obviously for a vehicle then ideally a thin hose back into the dashboard gauge I assume, as @Communicator advises.:)
