Hi all,

Trying to get the EGR off to give it a clean. Just can't get the 2 allen bolts out that connect to the pipe underneath. Just won't budge. I've given them a good dose of WD40 and i'll have another go tomm but don't hold out any hope of getting them undone.

I was going to clean the EGR and then blank it off with the blank with the small hole. The engine light is on and the code points to EGR.

I was hoping a clean and then the blank with the hole would allow me to reset the engine light and hopefully stop it coming on.

Now if i can't get the EGR off to clean - will the blank with the hole now be the wrong one and i'd be better with a non holed blank?

Anyone got any tips on getting them 2 allen bolts loosened?

Any help would be appreciated.

Not really knowing the 1.9 diesel setup

But
Can you get a socket/allen key with an impact gun / manual impact / wack it to help shock it loose?

Tbh wd40 isnt the best product out there....

Heat often may be needed to help breal what is either carbon or rust holding it

Tbh cleaning the egr is probably the better fix vs blanking to preveny eml light been on constantly....

Rememeber blanking is technically illegal and an mot failue if detected / deleted / check engine light on

No way to get to them with an impact wrench. On the 16 valve they are RIBE not allen. Is you engine 8 or 16V? Plus gas or other release agent ("WD40" make a release agent version) may help.
You need to get the valve working to put the light out. If the EGR makes the light come on the so will a blanking plate with no hole. I fitted the 4 plate to my 16V and had no issues.

not sure if its 8v or 16v - its the 1.9 Sporting

i used an allen key (couldn't see under) and it fitted and got a good hold but just can't get enough pressure on them to crack them. I'd really like to get the EGR off but its looking tough - just can't get at them effectively

inside the egr and the smaller hose from the head is wet - black oily wet. I was expecting soot rather than wet

the cars been standing for a while - just wondering if that would be why or if being wet in there indicates another problem?

was hoping the egr clean would of been a simple job (n)

As you’ve posted in the mk2 section, assuming therefore it is a mk2/mk2b then it’s an 8valve, as they all are an 8valve, including the 1.9JTD HGT.

I’ve used the cleaning sprays in the past and it did a reasonable job, although I suspect a can of carb cleaner would do exactly the same job.

Ok thank you. I'll have another crack later, if not I'll have to put it back and try the spray

Ok. No budge. Worth blanking with no hole blank and forgetting about egr? Will it pass emissions on mot with no egr?

Check code causing EML light to be on and post the result.
What year was your car first registered.
Someone may be able to help from there.

Yaaaaaaaaas!!!

Got it off!!!

Got to admit, school boy error, i was going the wrong way :bang:

Didn't take into account the bolts were upside down and i was tightening - first time i've done that  - please excuse me :worship:

The solenoid is stuck fast, the egr wouldn't of been operating at all

Tried the drilling a hole and banging the insides out but no go - the shaft is corroded in - got to the point where i think i've put a hole on the inside metal before its budged it out

So.......new egr. Question is will the pattern ones at £50 be OK or has it got to be genuine Fiat?

Sorry not to post before I had the same problem getting bolts out I used my small gas blow lamp with pencil flame on heads of bolts after a good while they came out. I think it's the loctite that they where originally fitted with that makes them tight I bought new bolts to re assem and they had some pre applied to the threads
