Hi

I was following the tutorial on here for glow plug diagnosis / replacement and for that you have to remove the glow plug heater relay box. When removing I think I pulled a plug connector off of a socket but I cannot see where it should plug back in! It's the wiring harness that plugs into the left-most socket of the glow plug heater relay box but it also has a short spur off if it with a smaller 3 pin connector on the end and this is what I've accidentally pulled off of somewhere. I've attached a picture if anyone can help me find the place where that plugs in. I'll have another look tomorrow but if anyone has this engine in their Stilo / Punto / Alfa 147 156 etc and could look I would appreciate it. Thanks

Hi, Welcome to the FF.

There are only 2 multi-pin connectors on the glow plug control unit. One 5 pin (4 pins used) to the engine management ECU, and one 6 pin (4 pins used) to the glow plugs.

The only 3 pin connectors I can think of in that area are the water in fuel sensor on the side of fuel filter head, and the fuel pressure sensor on the fuel rail. If the 3 pin connector is on a short spur, then reconnect the 2 connectors to the glow plug control unit and see where the short spur reaches to.
.

Hi,:)
TBH , it's still got a functional locking clip, and looks grubby..!!,
I'd suspect it's been disconnected for a while..,

That's my thought too to be honest, U wouldn't just have pulled it off not with the clip still in place thats for sure.

i think theres a connector like that on the vacuum tank, as I had to remove it to get to starter connections.
at least on my jtd 16v , don't know how many pins were in it as I wasn't looking at it.
but it had the wire horseshoe type clip so as others said they wouldn't just fall off unless someone lost the clip previously.
but looking at the pic it has the wire clip still in place.
only take a min to look there , id guess in similar place by wiring to starter motor.

Thanks for that, yes its a spur off the harness from the ECU to the heater relay box. I did plug it all back in and its a very short wire and had a quick look to see where it might go but it was getting dark. I'll have another look now and check those 2 places. Thanks

Good point. It was getting dark and only just noticed it still has the clip on now looking at the photo. It also looks grubby in the photo compared to the other connector that has been connected to the heater relay box. I if I can't find a socket I'll try turning ignition on and check for fault codes to see if that comes up with anything. But yes it may have not been connected at all. Only thing I remember is that the heater relay box wouldn't move easily and when I pulled it up it sort of moved all of a sudden and was free, then I noticed that connector. I'll report back later. Cheers
