I bought a 1.8 HGT. The bottom and top end were knackered so i got it a new engine. Fitted the new engine, wouldnt start, was an earth wire fault. Got it working, drove it about, STALLED IT! Since then it hasnt started. It turns over but thats it. Theres also a light on the dash the shape of a key that says code.
I tried putting a snap-on computer to tell us whats wrong but couldnt talk to ECU. Sent ECU off with key and transponder to be tested, came back with no problems! Bought a Haines manual so can get a diagram for the wires in loom to check the continuity and volts in each wire to see what wire is blown, the book doest cover engines!
The fuel cut off switch was checked and other obvious things but really have no idea what the heck ive done! Boyfriend says its coz in a woman driver, it says its just a FIAT!!

Please help so i can get the heap running and flog it, wash my hands with it now i have my powerful Puma :-D :-D

hi
ive nothing much to add other than,

check over all the wiring /connectors etc,

its easy for people to trap/cut/chaff wires when fitting engines
ive seen a few wires trapped between engine and box after people have done swaps.

check cranksensor too,
perhaps ecu couid be missing an earth,

good luck

btw ford puma's are worst than punto's fix punto and flog the puma, :p

the obvious answer is that the ecu is not earthed properly if everything else ok
ps snap on is sh t
its nice for the boys that like shiney stuff but i dont like magpies either after watching them peck the eyes out of my blackbirds i fed for 2 years:mad:

maybe more information needed?
its only a car and live data would show simple reasons why no starty

ps pumas were never powerful its just a fiesta in drag;)

The ECU is okay apparently. I bought a new one and the guy that was going to supply it to me asked me to check to make sure it was the right one as theres 2 different and then he asked why im buying it so i explained and he said instead of selling me a new one he will test my one if i supply it with the transponder and key. So i put some pink nail varnish on my bits and sent them to him. He phoned me and let me listen to an engine he had running after putting my stuff on it. He said he then put his FIAT computer on to pick up any registered faults but there were none so he sent it back to me.

There was a problem with an earth wire when the engine was first put in but that was sorted and the car was running fine! I stalled it 2 days later.

When i stalled it, i was rocking the car back and forth switching from 1st and Reverse to demonstrate a knock i have under the passenger wheel. I had my dad outside listening to the knock to see if he could tell me what it might be, like engine mount or something. Its ad i put it in rev and lifted clutch up to rock it back a 4th or 5th time i cant remember, i must have lifted the clutch slightly too high because as it rocked it stalled! Then i tried to restart the car but there was no spark!

First thing checked was a fuel cut off switch which is an automatic thing the punto has encase of a crash. The sensor is at back and switch is under dash. It dod nothing. Fises were chevked but nothing. Then i noticed the key shaped light on the dash whoch is why we've said the ECU isnt reading the key but now its been probed thats not the case so were clueless :-(

And no dissing my Puma guys thats my little pocket rocket :-D LOL!
