Has anyone on here driven a 16v sporting AND a T-Jet?

I'm gonna start looking for a new car, one a bit faster than my sporting, but i really like the GP so thinking of a T-jet.

I was wondering how much quicker/faster/better the T-Jet actually is? Am i going to notice much of a difference?

No doubt you would recognise the difference. For a start you get the torquey kick from the turbo. I have not driven the StarJet myself, but I can pretty much guarantee a BIG difference.

Not sure how much help this will be but anyway,
I have never driven a 1.4 16v Grande Punto, but did have a 1.4 Corsa SXI, 2009 plate, which I had been told was similar if not slightly higher performance than the 1.4 16v Grande Punto.
I now have the GP T-Jet, and let me tell you there is a big difference. While it does not have the torque of a diesel, the car is a whole lot faster than my corsa was. You feel confident over-taking or pulling out that as soon as you require any power, put your foot down a bit and you will get what you asked for.
Another big advantage of the engine is the fact you can still get good economy if you drive sensibly!
I would definitely recommend the upgrade to the T-Jet :)

yeah basically same as above... i recently brought a T-jet like 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it.. i had the 1.2 before but i test drove a 1.4 sporting first before the T-jet and it just has nothing compare to the kick of the tubro in a T-jet, its so much more fun to drive. Defiantly recommend the upgrade :)

I test drove the 1.4 16v at a Fiat Dealer when I went asking if they had any T-Jets, the salesman kept pushing me to buy that off him since "He'd never even heard of a turbo one except for the 1.9".

I was slightly tempted at first because insurance was £400 cheaper as well, but once I test drove the T-Jet the next day my mind was definitely made up! The difference is huge.

Hi, I have owned both cars and now own a M-Jet Sporting. I was shocked at first with the difference in power between the 16v and the T Jet, it is very quick so much so I bought and traded in the 16v. If you want something quicker I would highly reccommend it!! You'll love it.

how do you compare the t-jet to the multijet? is it a 1.9?

As said difference will be huge but I would go for something different.

I dont think i could go from 1 car to the same car bar a different engine. I like change too much though.

I love the GP tho, learnt a lot on here about them too so anything goes wrong, chances are i've already fixed it!

better the devil you know i guess

I drove all 3 cars ( starjet, tjet, and now mjet). Starjet is just a slow car that is slightly helped from the 6speed gearbox. The tjet is a very quick car of the line but i prefer that engine with a 6speed gearbox also. The mjet is quick too but not as the tjet ( of the line). In gear...well that's a different story. How many miles you do per year?

just over 20k.

Which was the most responsive coming out of corners?

For me it was the starjet unfortunately...tjet second place...and by far the worst ( out of those 3) is the mjet:eek:

I'm not sure if there are any differences between the 16v Starjet in our Eleganza compared to that of the Sporting but assuming there isn't...

I find the Starjet to be quite hard work. Peak torque isn't until 4500 rpm and peak power is way up at over 6000 rpm. Keep the revs between these two figures and the engine is a little cracker, drop it below 4000 rpm and it is as flat as a pancake.

I haven't really driven it on the boil much as it is my GFs car and is bound to feel slow compared to my modified Octavia vRS but I think it really depends on how you like to drive. Personally I love to be able to boot it at pretty much any revs and let the torque of a turbo charged engine work its magic. That said even I quite enjoy revving up that little 1.4 on a bit of country road but I couldn't live with it day to day. Much in the same way that I'd love a Civic Type-R as a toy, but wouldn't have one as my everyday car.

Horses for courses I guess :)

At 20k a year you'll want a M-Jet, the T-Jet is quite thirsty and noisy at high speeds (too low geared). Just make sure that the M-Jet clutch and gearbox are ok, judging by the posts on here they seem to be rather weak.

I have driven a 1.4 as a courtesy car twice, both the Evo and the Grande, I used to have a T-Jet sporting then went to a GPA.

1.4 needs to be kept at the limit to go anywhere quick or have fun, it should be a slight bit lighter than the T-jet so this may make it v v intially pick up a slight bit quicker out of corners if in the right gear.

There is no comparison between the two worth mentioning that the T-Jet wont win, apart from obv initial costs.

You need to adjust driving style to the turbo cars as well, turbo lag is a bit of a killer in low rev situation! You quickly learn what is best gear for given revs, especially roundabouts, had one slightly oooo situation when I had first got my T-Jet and came up to a roundabout in 2nd and then revs dropped I floored it to get into a gap and pick up was terrible as it was low revs (1300-1500rpm) and I had to wait for turbo to spool and then it went while cars baring down on me!

I also found that the 1.4 sporting ate petrol compared to old T-Jet as it needs to be thrashed a bit.

I am still managing 31mpg in my GPA average, and that mixture of all driving styles. At 20k a yr might wish to consider M-Jet but weigh up all of the costs for keeping it going

Hopefully this is useful, any questions let me know!

The t-jet is pretty good for ecomony depending how you drive. I was sent from my own asda store from the bottom of northern ireland to another at the top of northern ireland for a store remodel.
Worked out for 84 miles each way i was using approx 7 litres of petrol, £10 @130.9 from asda as it was that time of the month. That was also with a bit of heavy right footing through the gears and heavyish on the motorway.
