1.2 8v VVT??

It's just the 'starjet' engines. They retard the exhaust timing slightly when the engine is cold, this gets the cat hotter quicker so that it can meet emissions targets quicker.

So it is VVT, but not for performance.

I'm pretty sure the only VVT fiat engines are the 1.4l 16v but the newer one, The StarJet that came after the Panda 100HP. But that was only VVT on the exhaust cam.

The only other VVT that fiat do is the MultiAir which uses Hydralic lifters instead of cams so can have hundreds of timing combinations

Not sure they can do Variable timing on a 8v single OHC engine, since the cam do both intake and exhaust. Make the intake earlier you make the exhaust earlier (via pulley phasing) It would need to be twin lobe and that would mean cam shifting, similar to vtec, and pretty sure we would all know about it.
