Panda 08 Panda Cross for soft-roading

Introduction

Recently bought this Panda Cross for some light off-roading and responding for the local 4x4 rescue charity. It will also be the local runabout / dog car.

Having taken it to a quarry on day one, was able to properly assess the wee man's limitations, hopefully will be able to address some of them and modify the car to be a little more adaptable on rough stuff, through flooding and snow, etc.

In love already - it's so playful and eager.
Some pros and cons here of some mods here

The group he belongs to have taken it to the extreme, with engine swaps, lift kits, electronic locking rear, manual locking rear and so on

Personally I think a 20mm lift would be worthy of considering and leave the rest as standard

Thanks for this - I don't anticipate going crazy with it all.... currently. It already has a locking diff and that was good enough on loose rock. I will do a 20mm lift - sounds like 30mm starts fouling driveshafts and arches. Also want to find some white steelies and fit slightly larger rally tyres. Last thing on the current list is a remap to get more torque as it bogs down without boost

Petrol

Nothing to be gained on the petrol with a remap regardless of what you read elsewhere, it needs head modifications to make any difference whatsoever

Diesel go for it

I believe the fiat 500 R14 from the 500 are a straight swap

Probably give you better tyre choices

Sandblasting and powder coating although an additional cost, isn't that expensive, nobody cheap near me, but most cities usually have someone, as long as you are prepared to leave them and have them done at their convenience

Great shout, thank you. Yeah happy to settle for buying black wheels and painting them.

Car is a diesel (y)

Price seem extortionate since I last had some powder coating done, guess electricity doubled and wages increased, best I can find is £30 a wheel at the moment

The other option is rattle can them

Indeed!

One small modification - wind deflectors. Does anyone know if items compatible with the normal model / 4x4 model also fit the cross? i.e. is it the same window shape? My guess is yes but it's a guess as I can't find anything explicitly listed as compatible with the cross (or indeed not compatible).

I know one person fitted them and was happy

Some more discussion here

Apparently the rears don't fit well

I've struggled to find a full set, not totally surprised the rears don't work great with the manual wind. I'd only really crack the fronts anyway, so aesthetics be dammed, I'll probably opt for a simple life and fit the fronts only. Thank you again!
